Made a trip to the Rapid City area to visit inlaws and talked my bro in law to do a hike/overnighter with me. We hiked the Flume trail, a 11 mile section of the 110 mile long Centennial trail. Started at the Trail head at the east end of Sheridan Lake

The first mile or so skirted right along the lake, also is were the "flume" for an old gold mine once road. So there is evidence all along the trail. Including some sweet tunnels!

Saw some wild life, lots of squirrels and chip monks, and several small deer.

The plant life was beautiful, any idea what the first picture is? Did pick several pounds of rasberries!

Sometimes it occurs to me that people myself especially don't appreciate whats in their own backyard until we can see it through someone else's eyes. So thanks for that skab.

great pics! i lived east of the river in SD above sioux falls...i miss it there. what knives did ya carry?

nice pics buddy, glad to see a pic of the etowah tarp, been thinkin of pickin one of those up!!!!!

From what I understand, being that it is on National Forest Land, you can pan for gold from that stream. But that is it, no other means of gold hunting.

I enjoyed the Black Hills when I visited several years back. The group I was with and our plan at the time didn't allow for much backcountry exploration, but it's definitely on my list to see again. Thanks for posting the pics.

It's a really neat area that has a wide range of topography and weather. If I can I'd love to go back in the fall to hike the hills as well as stroll through the tall grass prairies in the area.

The Black Hills are a favorite destination for me and my wife.

Thanks for posting those great pics!

Great pics of your outting! My whole family lives back in South Dakota, hence I've been there a bunch of times. It really amazes me how beautiful it is there, all the wildlife, and the different changes of scenery. There are an unlimited amount of places to hike, camp, hunt, and explore. Glad to see you had a great time!
