Detents are installed yes. Otherwise it would end up opening in the pocket and qualify as a gravity knife and you don't want to be selling those. Detents are a must really. They also end up helping the action a bit. I use 1/16" diameter 440C ball bearing.
This design of this folder is very simple. First and foremost its an all screw construction. The idea here is for a simple easily taken down, maintainance free light weight EDC, although I never recommend taking them apart unless you need to. Now of course with the carbon blade its not going to be quite as maintainance free as the stainless blade ones but being able to break it down easily is a big plus for cleaning it to visually check it for spotting or any signs of grit.
Construction is quite simple. Again the idea is to "KIS". (Keep it simple) I'm really just a country bloke that is not all that complicated so my knives end up a lot like me.
Some models vary. My own is even less complex than Thom's here. In Thoms there are four barrels, 8 screws, a thumb stud and screw, a blade and two teflon washers and a .070 thick 6AL-4V titanium lock and liner with a detent on the lock, and a low rider pocket clip with two screws.
On my own its just two barrels, one for the pivot, one for the stop and then for the rear I just threaded the lock side and used two longer screws to pull it together tight. Other than this its the same though.
The platform this model gives me to work from allows me to offer it as a base model like seen here, as well as doll it up with scales, or bolsters and scales if I want to or someone ordered it that way but this right here is the one everyone buys. However, it does lend itself well to mods later also which I think people like. If you notice on Thom's I didn't bevel the edges a lot and its chunky compared to mine so he can have someone pimp it out if he desires and the screws and all the chunky build will allow him to still sand all the new additions flush without worry of getting too close to the heads of the button screws. I left him plenty of playground to mess with in other words.
Thats it. A simple straight forward little folder. In many ways it is kind of like a lighter duty smaller Sebbie only with a Wharncliff blade which is all I make. I love them!
Thanks for asking.
