I have heard the G-10 over the lock bar acts to keep it from overextended, but looking at mine it seems the lock bar is cut out exactly so it doesn't touch the G-10?

I think that you are looking at the front side, where theres a recess cut for the G10 piece to sit flush...

looking in through the back, it appears the detent ball sits right behind the insert, and the lock-bar is squared off, to catch it...

I think the recess is a very nice detail.

ETA: just looked, and with a flashlight, I can see the detent ball, behind the over-travel stop, with the knife in the open position...

Under normal unlocking you probably won't ever touch it. I did move the lock bar over until it hit it and it was a lot further than I ever go to unlock the knife. It is a just in case thing, not a use it all the time thing it seems.
