Hi,

Just wondering, has anybody experienced any lock rock with their southards? I've been wanting one for quite a while, but I usually like a steel insert on the lock face of titanium frame locks.

Nope, never heard of it either with a southard. If you get a southard and it has lock rock send it back under warranty issues. Lock rock can happen from abuse also, in this case your not using a folding knife the way it was intended. Use a fixed blade to beat on.
My southard flies out, got some custom juma dragon scales. The pictures do it no justice.

Go for it.

I've sat around simply flipping my Southard for entire afternoons before, and the lock up hasn't budged yet. The Taiwan Spydercos that have RILs (without steel inserts) have had the Ti carburized, much like how Chris Reeve does. If anything I see the steel lock face wearing, not the Ti.

Any hardness difference between two things will cause one to wear, just something to keep in mind. My Southard is rock solid, and I have not heard of anyone experiencing problems with it. I do believe that lock rock would more likely be due to a geometry issue, and the Taichung factory consistency has been pretty awesome by all accounts. I wouldn't let the lack of insert hold you back, but at the moment I think you can get a sprint Domino with 204P, and that design has the insert. I prefer the Southard to the domino, however.

I don't recall any reports of excess wear, including on the one that was a pass-around. Mine has been flipped a great deal and has zero wear.

Have you had rock lock in the past or is this just a nightmare of yours? ;)
