Hi guys, Was just wondering how I'd go about getting replacement screws for my southard, I stripped a few of them over time and need a whole new set now. Does anyone know if spyderco sends out replacement parts like this? I emailed them but have yet to receive a reply.
Any help appreacte!
thanks guys

Hahaha good luck!! I am still waiting on them for a southard they send back to me that they returned to me that was missing 4 screws.

Spyderco is generally very accommodating when someone needs one or two screws, but sending out entire sets may be a different matter as it could open up way too much opportunity for abuse.

Was this days, weeks or months ago? I would think if they were at fault this would be fixed asap. Maybe it has something to do with Taiwan manufactures and parts supply.

To the OP, take it down less! Those screws should last a long time. Spyderco can void warranties for disassembling their products so don't be mad if they wont just give parts away care free.

well that just not helpful....I enjoy taking it down and switching out the scales for my southard, nothing wrong in doing so. And the screws stripping after a while should not completely ruin the entire knife for me, I hope spyderco can appreciate this and help me out. I will be more careful in future now knowing that it may be very difficult to get replacement screws.

Per "nothing wrong in doing so". I believe if you take apart a spyderco you void the warranty. They are not made for "taking it down and switching out the scales". If you want to do that, the only readily available production knife that is built for user "take down" is the sebenza.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, as long as you understand that you're voiding the warranty by disassembling the knife, accept the responsibility for your actions, and don't expect the company to bail you out when you do a poor job of it.

I know this is an old thread, but hoping in the past 2 or so years, someone knows the right screw thread for the southard.

I have contacted spyderco and not only do they not have screws available to send me, they have no idea what thread pitch is used on this model. Not really sure how that is. Regardless, I need ONE screw that is slightly longer than the stock clip screw to accommodate a deep carry clip.

Would greatly appreciate any help here.

i have heard that the tiwan spydeco's are a little harder to get parts for!screws, clips ect.so one should keep this in mind.

I have little experience with metric miniature machine screws but I suspect that, like their SAE counterparts, there are only a limited number of sizes and only one thread pitch per size, two at the most.

In fairness, model specific screws may be an issue but, for the most part, clips are not. It's true there are a small number of Taiwan models that use bespoke clips. The Nilakka, Hungarian, Chubby, K2, and Rubicon, to be specific. However, the vast majority use either Spyderco's most common size wire clip or their common three hole clip.

I realize I'm responding to a zombie thread, but if someone is unable to disassemble the knife without damaging the fasteners, to be blunt, they have no grounds for complaining about the manufacturer's policy on providing parts to the public.

Contact all of the custom clip makers you can. A lot of times they have a good idea what works and what doesn't. Kind of surprised they couldn't get them for you. They got me new GB clip screws promptly. Those are odd little screws too. They should just use the nice big T8 screws that the Sage's use.

I just got a custom clip for my Southard from pops custom clips. He sent screws that fit the clip and frame. Not sure if he will sell them alone

He does have a listing for just clip screws, in various sizes, so the person who posted above should contact him at his Etsy site. Good tip.

The body screws are M2.5 and thread length is about .146"
There is a knife kit site that sells .178" long screws that work perfectly with the popular deep carry clips.
Pechelman, shoot me an email at Sketchenscales at gmail.com

Not sure why I didnt get my thread notifications of replies, this would have saved me from ordering screws.
Either way, I can confirm what Steve Ketchen said, the southard uses M2.5x.45 screws.

I will also add, that .178" long screws are not sufficiently long IMO to engage the thread on the standoff.
While my screws are that length, and do happen to grab the threads, less than 1 full thread is actually engaged.
I think a .25" or 6mm screw is more appropriate in that one location.
