I'm heading up to Alaska in about a week to spend a month working on a small cruise ship in SE Alaska. Major ports of call will be Juneau, Sitka, and Petersburg.

Does anyone know of any interesting local knife resources (shops, makers, etc) in any of these places? Any non-tourist places to check out? I've heard that most regular manufacture knives cost a fortune up there.

Thanks!:D

Yeah, there is Alaska Guns & Knives. May I also suggest that you get the following books: The Milepost & Frommer's Alaska 2007. I am going to be in Alaska in Sept., but I will be working at a hospital up there. I do not know where I will be yet. I see the guys from Alaska Gun & Knives online; they are really good guys in my opinion.

I live up in fairbanks. We recently just had a sportsmans warehouse arrive up here. they have a pretty decent selection of knives.

Back in '99 I stopped at a knife maker just outside of Soldotna by the name of WC Campbell. He had some pretty impressive work. He made the blades from old leaf-springs and his wife made the leather sheaths. I bought a beautiful 4" bladed fixed knife with a caribou handle. Later I had the handles scrimshawed with a trout on both sides.
