I had the chance to spend a couple of hours at the So Cal Custom Knife Show. This is the second time in three years that I have been able to go to the show and, as was the case the first time, I found that there was a lot of excellent craftsmanship to admire. All of the exhibitors were friendly and patient in explaining their work. I ended up purchasing a small Damascus fixed blade pocket knife with stag scales from Barry Dawson. This is my first Damascus steel knife and my first purchase from Dawson. He is friendly, justifiably proud of his work and prices his knives reasonably. His table had a good variety of knives to choose from. Mike McClure also had some beautiful samples to include a real nice sambar bird and trout knife that was calling out to me. Unfortunately it was a tad more than I was comfortable in spending even though it was certainly worth the asking price. It was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. Anybody else make the trip out to the show?

Yeah, I went yesterday, had a great time. Hung out with Darrel Ralph for a bit and bought one of his HTM Gunhammers.

Good picture of Brian Tighe in the background. I talked to Darrel for awile, too. I really wanted the Omega Maxx he had with the Trident blade. I just didn't have the scratch for it. I talked Brian Tighe up about my Tighe Coon and had a good time shooting the bull with him. I then moved on to the Hinderer booth only to discover I was too late for a carbon fiber scale, so I bought an Extreme Duty pen in SS to ease my pain. I got the chance to talk to Rick and Rob and thanked them for all the things they do for us on the forums. All in all I had a great day. Mental note to self...bring LOTS of cash next year.

I had the pleasure of attending on Sunday and really enjoyed checking out the top notch craftmanship as well as spending time chatting with the makers - all of whom were extremely friendly. Didn't have any dough to spend, but there were sure a lot of blades worth buying!

I went to the show and had a great time checking out all the great designs. Unfortunately, I arrived a little late to get the knife I wanted. After the show I stopped into Plaza Cutlery and to my surprise they had the one I was looking for. I probably could have found it online and not paid for tax, but I think it is worthwhile to support local businesses that put on great show like this one.

Great way to spend a Saturday.

Man.. just saw that it was in Anaheim. Oh well.... no funds currently due to Government Shutdown. Still working, just not getting paid :grumpy:
