Hey guys I have a noob question. A Southern Grind Spider Monkey was given to me a while back. It has the number 0093 under the type of steel it is on the blade. Does this mean it was the 93 knife of this model to roll of the production line. Or does it mean something else?

Welcome!

Probably. Is it S35VN?

Mine is 1880.

Zach sold to Diamondback Firearms a while back so I have no clue how you’d get in touch with them to find out.

My Bad Monkey is not serialized, FWIW. I'm betting it's exactly what you think it is, the # off the production line.

Having a serial-like number be part of a total count of knives made across models would be a near impossibility, I think.

All of the major guitar and mandolin makers do this regularly….and they’re churning out way more instruments than these smaller knife makers.

It can be done…but I’m not saying it is/was being done.

I had no idea. That's fascinating! It seems like such a needlessly complex logistical hurdle. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Nice, they're a great knife! Since the thread was revived already, I'll add a pic. It's my understanding that there were only 33 or so of these made. Maybe my numbers are a little off, and I thought this was the 14th one of them. But maybe it's the lot number of the blade steel then?

Very nice! I don't own a knife in M4 yet. Didn't see that as an option? Was this an older version or a sprint run type knife?

Yeah it was a sprint run some time back. I never knew they did it either until I came across this one pre-owned last year. It was a very small run of M4 models, some with the blue G10/carbon fiber scales, and some had the same combination except the G10 was red.

Edit: It was a BladeHQ exclusive.

After a few post office delays, I finally have my Spider Monkey. Polished Damasteel blade with custom oxidized copper scales . Beautiful. A very negligible amount of vertical blade wiggle. Otherwise LNIB. Lemme know what you all think.
