Hi all you Hoosiers. Believe it or not I'm a Hoosier too, born in Michigan City. Sadly though I have practically no outdoor experience in Indiana. But I may have the chance for a short hike coming up this week.
Can anyone recommend a nice hiking trail in Southern Indiana? Not too long, maybe 1-2 hours' walk. Not too far off the I64 interstate. Perhaps in the Hoosier National Forest or a state park?

Is Turkey Run State Park south enough?
Pretty cool creek with canoing and nice beaches and some good trails through ravines and forest. 1-2hrs sounds about right.
Liked going there often when I lived in West Lafayette.

Around Patoka lake (way south) there are some nice areas. It's a bit more hilly and you'll love the colorful trees this time of the year.

I'll most likely be passing through your state on I64 this trip, so yeah that park is about 120 miles too far north. :)

It does look interesting in the pictures though.

After studying maps and forest information, and without any forum recommendations, I decided on a destination. I64 bisects the Hoosier National Forest, and only a few miles north of the interstate is the Hemlock Cliffs. The hiking trail is only a mile long, but allow some extra time for photography and exploring the bluffs. Although within the Forest Service boundary shown on the state maps, the surrounding area is mostly private property so extensive off-trail exploration or extended hiking is not possible.

Bob, I'm sorry I didn't see your thread earlier to offer a suggestion or two, but it looks like you were able to find a good spot and have a nice trip out. Southern Indiana has some beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

An hour in the woods is just what I needed after two days of nonstop driving. Wish I could do it more often.
