southern ontario winter camping

Long story short - I had been using a 18 acre wooded lot for camping and hiking the past 10 years or so. It was owned by a great uncle of mine but he has passed away, it was later sold and I am no longer welcome to be on or use the property.

Does anyone own or know someone that has a wooded lot in southern Ontario that wouldn't mind someone occasionally setting up camp? It would only be for 1-2 nights over the odd weekend. I would do no damage and leave nothing behind. I know its not likely but I thought I'd put it out there in case any members can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

No problem - get ahold of a Bruce Trail guide book and camp at their designated camp sites.

Great idea. There are some excellent camping spots along the Bruce. 'Course, you may have to go a little bit north of Doc's neck of the woods to enjoy 'winter' camping this year. ;)

I have been wandering about the Blue Mountains and Beaver Valley sections of the trail all season (we've had plenty of snow up around Collingwood and Thornbury).

Happy camping,

Best,

Thanks guys. I appreciate the replies. I've never explored any other options as I've always had a place to go. I'll have to order one. I'm in Niagara btw, born in Dunnville. Nice to meet some locals!

You can probably find a copy at your local library.

The great thing, for you, about using the Bruce Trail campsites, is they extend right down to Queenston.

As far as winter camping goes, we're supposed to get 10-15 cm. Tues-Thurs. We can only keep our fingers crossed, although I have to work, so playing in it, for the most part, is out.

McGregor's Point, The Pinery and Silent Lake Provincial Parks offer winter camping opportunities. A little bit further driving past Toronto there is also Frontiac Provincial Park which allows backcountry winter camping.

I feel your pain!.....My grandmothers sister had a 150 acre farm not too far from us. While my grandmother was alive, we were always welcome there.
Their property bordered a river and they had hills and valleys...a very beautiful place. Me and my brothers camped there many a summer and we were even able to shot there as they had a family garbage dump that was down in one of the valleys. Can't tell you how many empty bottles of Goebel beer I shot :-)

Now that my grandmother died 4 years ago, we aren't really welcome anymore.
They are true farmers and don't really care for those "city slickers".
Its too bad...I know my 2 sons would love to go camping there in the summer time. Oh well......

I used to do a lot of winter camping at the Pinery which was very good except one night when some people staying in the Yurts partied like it was 1999 all night long. I have since moved to Valens which is closer and not far from St Catherines. On weekends there will be about 3 or 4 other campers there and there is lots of room to spread out. I usually go on a week night though. The staff are gone and my dog and I have the whole park to ourselves...check it out it's worth a try, gerry
