This one came about kind of by accident. Often when forging, I try not to waste the heat so in the initial stages I'll often work on 2 or 3 things until I need to focus more on the details. This one was a billet that had the point forged in but left for a couple weeks. I went back to it, again in the midst of 3 things, thinking to move some more metal as I was really working on another piece I had a design for. Well, once I started working on the tip again, this sort of jumped out at me. I had never really thought to try a southwest bowie but really quickly became enamoured with the shape. So this got finished first, and the original idea will be finished in a few days.

The blade is 8 1/2" of DHIII's W2. The OAL being 13 1/2"
Guard and spacer are from some blued damascus I made with my new press and the seppa, or spacers, and pin being SS.
The handle is Turkish Walnut from AKS.

Tried something a little different with the photo, trying to inset a detail..

Thanks for looking.

Thanks.. I wondered if that wee hint of the east came through. I guess those earlier hybrids have taken a set..

Thanks for the comments. Being the style of knife it is, I went for a more subtle hamon.

say what?!

hint o' the Oriental, definitely a subtle spice with this one.
Carry on, good sir.

Haven't seen a western-style blade from you in a while - you sure didn't miss a beat with this one. There's a hint of east, yes, but only that. This one says "bowie" to me loud and clear. And a VERY nice one at that. I'm with Michael on the fittings. Can't wait to see what else you come up with out of that new press.

Stuart....

What a beautiful bowie.....and the blued damascus and spacer along with the seppa are killer

that southest bowie came out great......one of my favorite styles of knives. I think your first attempt was done extremely well. I suggest adding this style to your offerings.
