Okay, I can still make a bowie. Lin Rhea was giving me grief about my bowies lookin' like fighters, but I think I should definitely get points on my bowie card for this one;) Here are the specs: 1075, SS guard, ironwood handle' David Seward sheath w/ostrich overlay. Sorry for the poor photography...gonna have to take some lessons from Caleb. Thanks for lookin. Comments/critiques welcome.

That's a clean machine! The blade proportions remind me of the bowies of Steve Filicietti, who is still one of my favorite bowie makers ever.

I would have never pegged this as a Southwest Bowie, without your declaring it such, but regardless it's a spectacular piece. What are the dimensions?:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks, guys. Kevin, it's a hair over 10 inch blade and about 5 1/4 inch handle. For me a touch over the 5 inch mark feels right with this style handle.
So no points on my bowie card?:( Guess I'll have to try harder next time;)

sorry man, I see fighter. If it makes you feel any better, I think it's a sweet knife.
If you wanna do a bowie, I'd suggest going with a handle more in line with a wider blade.
in the end, though, who cares? It's all words and stuff. A sweet knife is a sweet knife, whatever it's called.

The line between bowie and fighter is knd of subjective, IMO. After all the bowie is the American fighting knife. when I think of a SW bowie, I think of a shorter curved clip, but then I'd bow to the opinion of those more versed in knives than myself...after all I'm the very junior bladesmith from Arkansas;)

don't ever bow to anyone else's opinion, Ben :)

Yes, Steve Filicietti was a rising star as both a knife and sheathmaker.

Ben, really nice proportions.
I always liked this old frontiersman's declaration on the American Bowie : "a Bowie had to be sharp enough to use as a razor, heavy enough to use as a hatchet, long enough to use as a sword and broad enough to use as a paddle"

Ben , you may call it anything you want. Bowie / fighter / Bad A$$ knife. I call it a darned fine knife. I love it.

Nice job and thanks for sharing

Very nice knife and sheath! That handle looks super comfy!

Bowie? Fighter? Who cares. Very nice knife and particularly nice handle, esthetically as well as ergonomically.

Beautiful knife. I lean (no pun intended) toward leaner blades for bowies myself.......closer to the fighter style I suppose. But then I use mine for an all purpose cutter while hunting, fishing or just rambling around in the backcountry. Tough to slit open a trout or ring the "hoop" on a moose with a 2 inch wide blade. Yours looks just about right in my opinion. It's a bowie in my books.:D And a fine one at that:thumbup:

It's a pretty one what ever you call it Ben. I'm anxious to see what you are making in ten years.:)

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to have a damascus "bowie" at BLADE...we'll see if we can make it bowie:(;)

We will be looking for it. ;)
As far 'Southwest' Bowies go, look at examples from Jerry Fisk, Lin and Tim Hancock.
