I have watched hours and hours of reviews on the different Gen II offerings and its a love hate kinda series. The sheaths are the most criticized part, followed by the upper gaurd and occasionally someone knocks the handle. No one finds fault with the steels edge holding and durability which is big in my book, and as you can see the upper gaurd are easily removed and smoothed, making a nice thumb purchase location in the process. With original sheath molle locked to my external frame pack the SP45 is a light nimble combat chopper that does everything and with a crap kydex, with teklock the 46 rides effortlessly on a belt. The kraton stays sticky and won't burn or freeze you while absorbing shock. The 5160 seems to be invensible against wood and fibers, it just keeps cutting! Well I forget where I was going with this......maybe I really wasn't going anywhere, I just love these blades!

To be honest, I've never really paid much attention to which generation my SPs are. I can understand criticisms about the sheaths on most models, although some are fairly nice. I actually prefer the handle material (Kraton?) for knives that are going to see outdoor use, more so than micarta for sure.

Anytime I get a hot spot with the Ontario handle I just trim or sand the spot, lime the lower pinky stop. It usually has a semi sharp edge on it, but a quick trim to smooth the contour and your done. Top of the line in my book when you need a "serviceable tool"

sp Gen2 5160 steel , OKC done it right , very tough and easy to sharpen, cool.

i wish in the futher there can be a GEN2 version of SP10 .
