which do you think ontario sp10 or becker bk9?

its for survival/camping, and i would like something around 9inches, money is tight so it needs to stay under $80. any other options?

Man, get the Becker !! That 1095 cro-Van steel rocks. I've taken down about 20 3-5" trees with mine, 5 minutes with a diamond rod , and right back to action. The sheath is functional, but not the greatest. It does the job. But, as an added bonus ,you get a piggy-back knife.
Next to my Esee Junglas, it's my best chopper. No hot spots with the handle either ,so I don't miss micarta slabs on it. I personally don't trust too much Ontario stuff anymore, but that's just my op.
Good Luck with your choice.

1095crovan (107-6 sharon) is great.
i was looking at the junglas too, but its a little out of my price, and a little thinner than i want.

i have a really old ontario military machete and i love the shit out of it, but i agree they have kinda fallen behind.

do you have a picture of the becker sheath?

IIRC, the BK9 is made of 3/16" stock, just like the Junglas.
to me, the kicker between the 2 you're looking at is which one os more comfortable in hand.
If you have very large hands, the BK9 may not fit comfortably.
OTOH, some find the rubber-like material of the SP series to cause hot spots unless used with gloves.
Handle both, see what feels better to you, and buy it - either of them should work well.
(again OTOH, if you save up $5-10 per week extra, in a month or 2 you'll have the difference between one of the above and the Junglas)

if i was going to do that i would get the cold steel trailmaster.
:)

nothing wrong with the TM - nice thick spine and a full flat grind so it stays light in hand.
I sold mine to help finance a Junglas when it came out because I prefer full-tang blades.
You might also look at the RD9 from Ontario 1/4" thick 5160.
