We are removing a bunch of stuff for an old spa pool from our yard. There is a pump with a Magnetek Centurion single-phase, 230V, 2hp, 3450rpm motor on it that I think still works. I believe that it has a shaft with a threaded section on the end. Is this useable for a disc grinder? I would probably use step pulleys to drop the speed and vary the speed. I haven't ripped it out yet. If it isn't likely to be useable, I would let the guy who is hauling the stuff away take it.

There is also a small (110V, I think) motor on the air pump. Any uses for it?

Lastly, would the burners in the heater be useful for making a forge? It is connected to the natural gas line running to the house.

Thanks.

Phil

3450 is way, way too fast for a 9" disk - terror on the work bench! So, like you said slowing down with pulleys or gears is necessary. I have a DC motor on mine and not sure the speed I actually use, but I think it's usually around 1000RPM +/- 500. Sounds like a great motor for a belt grinder, maybe a KMG? Can I assume its a sealed enclosure?

Can't think of a use for a small 110. Well if it's 1750rpm and at least a 1/3 hp, it'd make a nice buffer.

Just my ideas,

Steve
