Anyone know if the texture they are applying these days is the same as what they would have put on in 2006, or have they changed it? I like the original finish, but the scratches are starting to bug me. Not sure if I would refinish it if it would end up with a different feel, though...

Any knife sent in for any reason will be refinished whether you ask for it to be done or not. I had a Regular done last year and it came back much the same as it was from the early 2000s. :)

I recently got a large Reg back from the spa where they blasted the handles, intalled new perforated washers and outfitted it with a new fancy lanyard. I did not have them re-tumble the blade or sharpen it. The finish was identical to another reg I have that is NIB/mint/never been touched.

I like the way the scales scuff up. Am I in the minority?

No your not.............lol. I have always said every scratch on my sebenza is an adventure I had with my sebenza. I have never sent any in to resharpen or to have the spa treatment. I like them just as they arem scratches and all, and as for the sharpening, I can do myself quite well on the sharpmaker. Even when I buy a used sebenza ( its been awhile ), all I do is take it apart, scrub every little piece, let them dry and reassemble, lube, and sharpen. Scratches or not, its Mine Then....lol.

The refinishing slightly changes the crispness of the CRK logo...I would skip it if at all possible and keep the scales the way they are, unless you really want something that looks new - but if you use it, that's only temporary... ;)

I prefer the marked up look as well, but I wanted silver hardware installed so having the whole thing refinished only made sense.

The pics are a little deceiving--it was pretty heavily marked up before the spa treatment. To what JNewell stated above about the logo--yes, it does slightly dull the logo as well as the ribs on the back of the handles (if yours has them).

That's another thing I don't get, buying a knife like the Sebenza and worrying about using it, mostly due to the cost. The first time I held mine I knew it was a worker. Outside of the previously mentioned scuffs, it'd be pretty hard to damage one of these knives.

I'm on the fence about it. I love the look of a freshly refinished knife, but those first scratches are really painful. I also like a well used Sebenza, with honorable wear, though I'd prefer it to be from my own use and not from the PO's. Still not sure which way I'm going with this large reg. It happens to be the smoothest and most delightful to operate Sebenza I've ever handled, so the thought of parting with it for several weeks or more is still too much for me...
