Looks like I might have better luck selling a small 21 I picked up if I send it in to CRK for spa treatment. From the email I received from Angela she indicates that the spa is a warranty (free) option. Does it matter that I picked up the knife from the exchange here on BladeForums? She also said that the knife having a current scotch brite treatment isn't a problem and they can re-blast the scales. Is blasting the scales included in the spa treatment or is that an additional charge?

I've only had one other time to send back a knife and it was a new sebenza that the blade wasn't centered, so I've never used the spa. Thanks for any info guys!

The reblast is now included.

All you would pay is $14 for return shipping. They will sharpen and tune the knife as well. If you want a new stud or washers or back spacer there is a fee for those.

Thank-you! Thats what I needed to know.

Wow! I did not know this. The last time I sent one off there was a charge, but that was 2 or 3 years ago.

Does the "spa treatment" turnaround usually take a few weeks, or a few months? Thanks!

I sent an Mnandi in during the summer for a blade polish and it took 4 weeks.

Just FYI, guys. Just found out that CRK will not reblast your knife if the chamfers were rounded at all when the scotchbrite treatment was done. Major bummer. Just sent one in and was notified that they won't be reblasting it and that's the the only reason I sent it in.

I'm not a crk or knife "know it all", but I'm not certain what you mean? How much was the knife scotchbrited?

That is the word CRK used — I believe it's where the edges meet up at like 45 degree angles. I didn't do the scotchbrite or sanding or whatever. I couldn't tell that the corners were rounded but CRK says it's out of spec.

BTW, I'm not badmouthing CRK; this is just a buyer beware. I didn't realize that I was buying a knife that would not get warranty service. I can't even pay CRK to reblast it — they won't do it.

Sorry if I'm being a whiner, guys. I'm just a little frustrated. I wasted about $20 mailing it down (postage + insurance) and getting it back for nothing. I guess I'll just have some fun with it and scotchbrite the whole thing. Not even sure if it was scotchbrited or sanded or what. Here's a pic. Maybe it was stonewashed.

Wow, never thought THAT would be an issue for them to not blast it.

I think there are a few BF members who do blasting work, I just don't remember who:confused:

It looks pretty smoothed out and maybe a good candidate for the home anodizing treatment? Maprik did one that looks great and there are plenty of posted links on how to do it. Just a thought in the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons.

I actually emailed and requested this info today for myself. Heather sent me a form with instructions/pricing for sending a knife in for spa treatment or other work. I can forward it you you if you would like.

Thanks but I got the same form. I actually sent mine in and Heather emailed me today to let me know that they would not reblast it. She is very kind and professional in her emails, BTW.

There's guys here on the forum who can reblast it for you. I know that So-Lo can reblast, and he seems to do really good work. Send him a PM.

That really doesnt surprise me. Why should they reblast it after you decide to modify it?
