Quick question for everyone. I've sent about a dozen knives in for spa treatments and Buck has done an amazing job. I have a 110 that has faded out/dry scales. Does the spa treatment do anything to the scales to bring them back to life??

Buck's Spa treat does include polishing of the handles scales or they can be replaced for $15.00 if they are too far gone.

I sent two old Ebony 110’s for new blades. They came back dripping wet with oil. Pretty sure it was mineral oil. I doubt they would oil laminate handles.

If they are dymalux or dymawood laminates, the dry or faded out look is when the resins are getting broken down either from sunlight or chemical reaction. I had a knife handle like that and I lightly used a 620 grit sand paper to remove the dead stuff and then some 1200 grit and then buffed it to a shine. I had been washing it with a disinfectant soap and found out it had VOC solvent that was affecting the resins. After that I used ordinary dish soap and rinse and it still looks good as new. Sitting in the sunlight a long time the uv rays will fade the resins too. Avoid solvents or VOCs is the main and most common problems with laminate resins.

So if the damage isn’t to deep the spa treatment should get them back to looking new again.

Thanks for the reply!

How deep is it? Might come off with some sandpaper and elbow grease. I have no idea if Buck would mess with that.

A lot of people leave those oddball logos on, but I don’t know if I’d want it on that knife. Cool handle.

Can buck regrind a blade and remove the laser etching View attachment 1197683View attachment 1197684

Idk what your budget is and what not but I think that guy Josh at razor edge knives on here does killer work and he might be able to tackle that. Just pm him and ask.

I've mirror polished a blade by hand taking it from laser etched with a black coating to mirror with sand paper but never took just an etch off so idk how it would look.

There is a 105 in the for sale section that states Buck will remove the l.l.bean logo fo 6.95. So unless this one is deeper i would think they will do it.
Better to ask Buck than us.
