Best Buy has a collector's set of all eight seasons of Space: 1999, all 48 episodes, with bonus materials for $129.95. Man am I ever tempted... someone please talk me down... :D. The question I ask myself is: will I still enjoy watching them the same way I did back in the late 1970s, except without having to fiddle with a UHF TV antenna, contend with the routine preemptions due to saturday afternoon sports running long, or my dad deciding that I didn't really need to watch the last five minutes of my ONE permitted TV show... hmmmm.

You might try renting a single episode first, I don't know where from. I saw one a few years ago on public TV and it was baaaad.

I'm with johnniet. My fond memories of the show far outstrip the reality. When I saw it a few years ago, it sucked hard. The special effects were reminiscent of The Thunderbirds, and while I like Martin Landau, Barbara Bain was easily the worst actress on the face of the Earth (or the moon). Oh, and it sucked even harder when they brought in the girl who could change into animals.

Hey! I like the Thunderbirds. In fact I bought the boxed set. Really the only reason to buy these shows is for the sentimental value. I love to watch them just like I did on Saturdays when I was a kid but they really aren't that good juset bring back good memories, like collecting old toys....

I rented the first season awhile back. It's really horrible, biased, anti-nuclear energy, anti-space research. Blech.
