I picked up a space blanket that was on clearance at the local hardware store (clearing out their camping selection, which wasn't much to begin with). I decided to keep it in my Jumbo, and will probably get one for my truck and for my Pygmy Falcon II. I got it for if my ol' POS truck doesn't get me home, this winter. I usually keep an old blanket in my truck, and plan on using it with the space blanket if need be. How long are these good for? A couple uses? It's only a couple dollars, but would it be a wasted investment?

Ive never used one other than after a marathon,...
big shiny silver, should make an excellent signaling device when
tied to your open hood if nothing else.,
If you got a few bucks extra,I dont see how it could hurt to get some.

Average price for cheapo's = $1-$2. They're good for at least a few blankets but the cheap variety are notoriously difficult to get back to their original size. Always good to have a few around for emergencies. I have a bunch of cheap ones in kits, stashed and in vehicles and a couple nice ones in kits also.

they don't really re-fold well, I think some of the guys here had a little luck re-folding the AMK ones. The cheap ones have a shelf life, so don't forget to check on it once and a while, and if something leaks into the package, the coating can corrode off, and you're left with a big plastic sheet. had that happen to to one of mine, only a few drops of juice and there was about half the coating disappeared. still would have worked, but not something you'd want to risk.

The All Weather Space Blanket by MPI is more durable and a better long term buy.

Very true. That said, I believe the cheapos are also good as they take up a lot less space, and can fit where the AWB won't.
