We're not even sure if this is considered a sword
It measures 16 ½" long.
Tang marks: MADE IN XX SPAIN X / TOLEDO

031.jpg

The blade is decoratively etched
There is an ornamental decoration where the blade meets the handle,
there appears to be some sort of coat of arms type shield (maybe pewterish).

The handle appears to be wrapped with a twisted strand of thin metal type material.

More close up pic's can be seen here:

Any identification help is greatly appreciated!

The style and length and the fact it has a blade symmetrically sharpened on both side makes it a dagger, and 'stilletto in style. However...

If you notice that the blade says 'Made in Spain', which is English rather than Spanish, so we have a puzzle.

Also, the quality of blades coming from Toledo was first class, and even though yours could have been abused, the file marks along the edge and at the point look crude. The engraving is also bad, and the casting of the metal crossguard and pommel is dreadful.

I am going to go for an India copy of a Toledo stiletto. I would guess that the blade is not properly hardened and tempered either. Its redeeming factor is a nice twisted wire handle.

Here is an old one so you can see the difference.

I have one of these also. A friend bought it for me at a garage sale for a dollar. I believe the correct term is "tourist trash."

Could have been made in several places, but most likely not Toledo ,Spain.
Tourist souvenir.
