Hello all,

I have been searching online, but could not easily find out what spalted O1 steel is. If anyone can shed some light on the issue, I would appreciate it.

I could be wrong, but I believe it's the name of the proprietary finish that Andy puts on his knives.

"Spalted" refers to the proprietor finish that Andy uses on his knives. O-1 is a high carbon tool steel that Andy uses. Good stuff!!

3D Spalted 01 Steel is the name I gave to my proprietary blade finish.

It is magic! Darrk Magic and witchcraft brewded up by a greegree woman way down in the bayyou. Beware you have Ben warnded...............

The blade finish isn't like a blueing in that it prevents rust. It is 01 steel.

I don't think the spalting is done for corrosion resistance as much for cosmetic purposes. It simply makes the knife look great and really sets the FB's apart from other makers. Andy is the only one that does it. Dan's right though, owing one can lead to toomanydamnknifewifemad syndrome.
