Well, I think it's spam anyway.

Ty Stratford send me, along with many others, some BS about Microsoft paying everyone who forwards the email, and "tungtai" sent me, and many others, an email about precision ball bearings for sale.

I just wanted to let people know that the Microsoft thing is BS, and that "tungtai" must be taking email addresses from the forum.

It amazes me that people actually believe that bit about Microsoft paying for email forwarding. We had someone in our organization (we're a fair sized federal agency) forward the message to every name beginning with A or B in the global address book before our computer people could stop her.

Spams, chainmail, I hate 'em!
mad.gif
About a year ago a woman at my father's office used the company database to send a chainmail letter about some kid dying of cancer and if enough emails were sent a huge donation would be made to the CCS. This was all a pile of BS (my father works with our local cancer clinic so I'd know) of the worst kind. I sent a reply to EVERYONE who got the email informing them that it was a disgusting hoax meant to waste time. I also informed the woman who sent it to me that if I ever got a chainletter again, she would find herself in chains-at the bottom of the harbour! She hasn't emailed/spoken to me since, did I do something wrong?

Turns out it was an honest mistake. My apologies, Ty.

Did anybody notice the offer was good for two weeks starting around December 15, which is over ONE week ago?

Well, it sounds like Ty needs more e-mail.
Guess I could foward all my received spam to his account. Most of the time when I try to get spam removed, it just gets returned. Now we can send it to Ty!!!

Is this the same guy that Spark was going to have as a moderator for one of the forums??

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?
And just what are you going to do with this one that you can't do with the others?
What is the purpose of all these knives anyhow??

Unfortunately...but I'm not even a KnifeForums member...Ty banned me for no reason. I did nothing wrong on that forum.

We all show lapses in judgement, folks, no one is perfect. Ty was going to moderate a Microtech Forum, but since Microholics.com opened, that's not going to happen at this time.

We do not give our moderators the capability to send mass emails to our members, so you don't have to worry about that coming from BladeForums.com.

The only emails we send out are the typical "once a month" news bulliten, and the occasional special offer like the Sifu's and Natives and such. Other than that, we don't send anything out.

I'd like to take this time to remind you that you have the capability to do a couple of things, simply by changing your profile -

1. Exclude yourself from the UBB mailing list . Change your profile so that "Allow Bulletin Board Administrators and Moderators To Send You Email Notices?" is set to NO
2. Hide your email address from Spambots, etc. Change your profile so that "Keep your email address viewable to other users when you post notes?" is set to NO. We'll still be able to contact you (as we have access to your profile), but spammers won't be able to harvest it. Now, if you put your email address in your signature, you are screwed as they will find it there, which is why I recommend putting a free email address there, and using your real one for your profile (and turning it's display off), but that's me.

Hi Jackyl

,
You're not banned anymore from KFC, so feel free to post away.

Now as far as this Spamation issue is concerned, I received the same garbagio too!

However, I deleted the thing before I even checked who sent the POS Message!!, as it looked like a potential virus problem to me at first glance!

AWESOME!!! You're the man Valmet, but Mr. Nowka told me the same thing, and when I tried to register / post...said I was still banned. I'll try again though. Thanks.

Also, I "replied to all" so the original receipients wouldn't waste their time forwarding it to others. Sorry if I pised in anyone's Corn Flakes.

I got one about the kid with cancer too. It claimed that some millionaire would pay $0.25 towards the kids surgery for everytime the message was forwarded. Thats pretty sick either way if you ask me. "I'll save his life, but lets make a game out of it". Whats really sad is not only are all those lame messages flying around, alot of them contain viruses from wuld be hackers and some that are more harmful to your computer. If you get these, don't open them all the way until you know its from someone you trust, and it looks safe.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Some people are just amazingly gullible. I have received several urgent warnings about viruses, and each and everyone was a hoax. I tracked down the original mailer of one such warning (I was about third group down), and advised her of an URL where she could check for the validity of the 'virus,' and asked her to check next time before mailing off the warning. She became irate, saying that I wasn't even on her original mailing list. At that point I realized the type of person with whom I was dealing, and refrained from explaining to her that indeed that was the case, which meant perhaps several hundred people had been affected by her mailing.

Then there is the case of the worm that Rob Simonich sent me around Christmas 1998; my antiviral proggy grabbed it, and I told Rob about it. So he posts here in the forum, 'I gave doc worms!!' He is such a sweet guy.

So it goes, Walt

Fix it right the first time; use baling wire AND duct tape!

Ahhhh

If I was the millionaire donating the money I would have saved the kid even if the email, did not generate enough response!

I know, I know you all think I'm way to nice, but...

Thank you Spark. My lapse of judgement was a software dump of my address book (no, not any FORUM's list for those reaching...) to those on it, and nothing else.

My mailer, browser, and dial-up adapter setup then promptly was hosed, and when I took the time to repair it...after "regediting" to remove artifacts, and applying Mcafee, lo and behold, I received a number of irrate emails from those on MY personal list. Fine, I'd probably be mad too.

If you were part of this stupidity, I'm publicly very sorry. I work with computers so I know about spam, OK Walt? My "comedic relief" comment was sarcasm, John.

I got zapped. I have a good system...I'm a software engineer, and I let my guard down...so don't EVER be surprised if the same happens to you. (even with something my ISP calls a "Spaminator"). There is also the possibility that since my system is "ON" all the time, that the problem occurred by a more direct means...but irrespective, I was not amused...as I'm POSITIVE those emailed weren't.

Again, I'm sorry for the unfortunate and unintentional email, and surprised by the personal attacks. On second thought...I guess I'm not.

Again, Sorry for the disturbance.
