hey guys!

matt the fat man gregory got me into this crazy hamon stuff. i'll never forgive him for it

so i decided to make a hunter with some hamon. kind of weird, but i guess that's expected. sorry for the bad pictures... lots of shadows look bad on a blade with hamon.

the handle material is a super sweet chunk of yucutan rosewood... most of the stuff at the supplier was very staight grained, but this had some nice sunburst to some of it.

i think you'll be seeing some more of this from me. thanks for looking guys!

That rosewood is some trippy stuff! That hamon is absolutely not what I expected... I guess that the 'random' hamon method worked! Can't feature it getting any more random than that - turned out sweet. We need to see some bigger pics of that, bro...

Nice knife Michael, looks like it would be comfortable to hold while skinning big game, and that wide blade looks like it could do some serious work. The rosewood looks nice too.

The pictures suck, tho. Make 'em bigger send 'em to me, I'll correct for color temp.

DO IT, LOOSAH!

thanks again guys! my pictures don't do the wood justice though. if you ever have a chance to work with the yucutan rosewood make sure you do.... really cool stuff.

IG do you have any of this laying around? if not you should go for a ride up to wood craft in Rhode Island. they have tons of it. you would have a field day there, way too many goodies

it seems to be pretty oily stuff.... but it did suck up some of the salad bowl finsh... much more than cocobolo does... much way less than maple... if that means anything

thanks man!

Hi Mike,I was just re-reading my May 2010 Blade mag,and saw you in
Knifemaker Showcase.
Man,you make a really nice looking knife!
Do you also do your own leatherwork?
The sheath in the magazine pic looks sweet dude!
I have a feeling you're not going to have a problem "establishing a name in knifemaking" and generating a "good enough following to be a successful full-time maker" if you market yourself half as good as you make a knife!
You've had some good guidance, and your tutors with NECKA should be pleased.
Keep up the good work!

hey man! thanks i do the sheath work on all of my knives.

thanks for the kind words man. check out spanglercustomknives.com to see more of my work. shoot me an email if you have questions. i just missed getting the web site up in time for the magazine article

I just went over and drooled...I mean looked at your work,
and man, that compound Kozuka is sweet.
Your damascus is nice, and your filework is tight...
You're going on my Knives I Gotta Have list my friend!:D
Any plans on doing engraving later on?
That would round out your skills pretty well.

thanks again man.
no plans for engraving as of now. but you never know what you're going to get in to when working on knives.

i should have another kozuka up in a few days. keep your eyes on the web site

That's a really good looking knife. Love the wild and crazy hamon.

Roger
