Spanish cedar?

I'm rehandling a kershaw crown for a Christmas gift this year and I just received an email telling me my package of stabilized wood is lost somewhere in transit. I have an old unused cigar humidor laying around that's made of Spanish cedar. How do you guys feel about using this wood for a handle scale material? I plan on finishing it up to 1500 grit and rubbing in some linseed oil followed by polishing with beeswax. Thoughts?
Edit: I should note that my one concern is how soft the wood is currently. Granted it's for my 57 year old father who is disabled so the knife will never see real use. He just appreciates a nice cheap pocket knife.

A pretty wood but soft. Try a cabinet shop or flooring shop nearby. They would have some small pieces of oak or something else you would like. DM

Hate to see you destroy a nice box.

no sir i would not call this one nice. i have the nice one well maintained and put out of harms way for those cigar days. this one is just an el cheapo some guy gave me when he was moving. he knew i liked cigars from my father but he didnt realize i had a nice steampunk style, glass top trunk style humidor that is my precious. my only concern really is how soft it is. ive decided im gonna try and do this for absolutely no money. i bought the knife for myself and done all the mods by hand so why spend money on a $10 knife?
