I'm taking a trip to Spain in the Spring. Going to be heading to Bilbao by boat, and travelling down to Barcelona by train, then flying back. I've travelled to and within Spain many times before and never had any problems carrying knives. It's a couple of years since I've visited though, and I wondered if anything had changed. In the past I've been told that there are restrictions on knives over a palm-width's in length, but I wondered if that was just a 'rule of thumb' so to speak.

I was thinking of carrying a SAK and a Spyderco Bird Crow. Both are small knives, which I hope won't cause me any problems, and if I have to surrender or ditch either I won't be too out of pocket.

If you must, carry the smallest possible. I went through a metal detector to get into a museum with an Opinel, and it was a pretty big deal. Almost like they wanted to arrest me.

I hadn't realised things had got that bad. I'll mainly just be travelling, and I think I've already been to most of the museums I'd visit. I'd just like to avoid getting arrested if possible! Do you know the actual law?

I haven't been there is twenty years but then every shop had switchblades and folders. I toured a knife making factory in Toledo. Has all that changed?
