That is the question.....

3inSlicerSpanto.jpg

Which grind do you prefer on your 3" XM's and why?

What about your 3.5" and XM=24's? Thanks, all

I lean toward slicer on the little fella.

If it was my only Hinderer, I may decide Spanto just because a Spanto Hinderer is a classic.

Slicer on the 3" because it functions so well for the EDC type roll, because of its size.

It can do a lot, but I find the 3" is more of pocket knife than a dedicated service tool like a 3.5 or 24.

Not saying anything negative about the 3". It's as robust as any size, and very capable. If its all I had on me and I needed to get something done...I'm confident it will have me covered.

In fact, my buddy had his 3" Slicer along on our recent camping trip...it did everything from slice bread to cut strapping and got used as a steak knife, and so much more. Didn't stutter.

so, the question is spanto or slicer? For the longest time I thought you all were crazy for spending the kind of money you do on those goofy looking knives??? And all along my safe got alittle heavier gathering various spyders, ZT's, cryo, etc, etc. And awhile back this thought came to me.....If I sold that one, and that one, and.....I'd have enough to get one of those slicers or spanto, so which would I get??? Came to the conclusion for me it didn't really matter, I wanted to start out (start out??), hang on here we go. Wanted a 3" after having the 560/561 pair, 550/551 pair, and the para 2's. I like the delica size, and thought the 3' would be awsome. So when the time came, I found a brand new one from one of the vendors on the hinderer site and the rest is history. My black slicer,3" should be here tomorrow and am I'm worse than my grand kids at christmas. The funny things is, I haven't received the 3" yet and started looking at the 3.5's, showed my wife the 3" pictures and some of the 3.5's and she said. " why don't you get both??" Almost fell off the computer chair. Will let ya know how the 3" goes if I make it!!!!

Since you asked about 3.5 and 24 also...I'll add...

The 3.5 can go either way.

Personally, I EDC the Spanto. The extra blade thickness (slight as some may point out) over the Slicer gives me "more".

The "more" can be used taxingly without a hiccup.

Slicers are also very robust blade grinds. I'm betting either will pry things if ever needed. It just boils down to Slicer feeling a little more pedestrian than the Spanto.

Spanto to me, is a nice balance of useful cutting tool and service tool, while Slicer better fills the cutting tool role.

On my 24, it's Spanto. Beefy workhorse!!!

But I do think a 24 Slicer would be one sweet XM, no doubt.

I think the thing is...I want at leat one of each. Yep, that's my problem. :D

I was wondering who bought that one. I saw it for sale yesterday. I bought the blue g10 that was on the same site the day before.

Hauling- I went thru the vendor (dealer) list so many times, and finally found one available, so I had to jump on it.:D

3" - Slicer
3.5" - Either (prefer Spanto)
4" (24) - Spanto

Why? Cuz I said so :) No, but seriously Cuz I said so.....

I started with the Spanto Grind, then the Slicer....

Then I tried the Smiling Shark Bottle opener Grind.....

Then the Fonz Grind.....

But ultimately the Spanto is the penultimate pinnacle of quintessential Hinderer grind

I believe those might snag a bit on the slice.:D

Bottle opener, not on the blade...
--but most everything rocks those now...very popular feature.

If it wasn't for Family Guy and the Waterboy movie, the Fonzie reference may have escaped me.

Idea...could you / would you (if ever a spare minute presents itself) play with fire themed serrations. I know it won't ever exist, but would still like to see it.
