spares carrier as impact weapon?

I got a Surefire SC1 spares carrier today. I loaded it with 6 batts and a reflector assembly and tied some 550 cord directly onto one of the built-in loops. I then thought to myself that this might make a good makeshift impact weapon like a blackjack. Would the case survive a hit?

I suppose it depends on what you hit...even if it doesn't survive, I bet it would do some damage!

I bet it would work well, if you're going for a surprise attack sort of thing. Of course, in a self-defence situation, you're probably not going to have the time to fling that thing around, unless you're Jacky Chan. :)

This is an interesting idea! I will save up some of my old batteries, and when I can afford to sacrifice the cash, buy a second spares carrier, and give it a try. The weak point might be the threads, with the halves of the carrier flexing enough to allow the thing to come apart upon impact. I am not a big fan of flails for self-defense, since most such fighting seems to occur in confined spaces. But, for coming to the aid of a third party, sometimes there is room to swing a flail on a flanking or rear attack.

That's an interesting point. Maybe holding the body of the spares carrier in hand and keeping the lanyard around one's wrist to keep from losing the carrier while still using it as an impact weapon will not only allow for close-range strikes, but also more weighted strikes ala having a roll of quarters in your hand. In this case, however, you're striking with the carrier still, not your fist.

SureFire 9P with a TID on it makes a great Kubaton or Yawara stick. The extra length gives you more to strike with.
