Spark can we still post pictures here?

I've tried several times today to post a picture from PhotoPoint, and it's not working. I've been able to do it before, now it's not. I'll try one more time here...

If something has changed regarding posting photos can you let me know what it is?

For some reason the code is different from what I entered, with the (/img) in the middle instead of at the end where I had it. That's exactly what happened with my other attempts.
What's up with that?

Not quite sure what's going on with that, but since I don't use Photopoint, I'm not sure what's up... anyone use Photopoint have a clue?

I used Photopoint and posted a picture before the upgrade, now it gone.

It was in "general discussions" topic "1st swiss army knife"

Photopoint had been recommended by someone on the forums when I did a search on "pictures" (I'll try to find the exact post)

It's a site that stores pix.

I then used the UBB codes to insert the picture into the post.

Hope that helps some.

To test whether it's them or the new UBB code, here's a pic from PhotoPoint:

...and one from my server:

On closer examination, it seems to be a compatibility issue between UBB & PhotoPoint. I just set up a test page on my server & the pic displays properly.

Here's the proper URL for the picture of the small Bauchop: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=185132&a=1406520&p=16410405&Sequence=1
What seems to be happening is that UBB is stripping out the ?u after the word View and substituting [/IMG] in its place.

I don't have a work-around, Phil. The picture of the Griffe you are seeing is on my server, not on PhotoPoint. I tried editing & re-inserting the ?u into the PhotoPoint address but UBB keeps stripping it out. FYI, not that it's any consolation, but Bill Martino is having the same problem in the HI forum.

I looked at the URLs for some earlier PhotoPoint pictures. The ?u is there and the pics display properly. I am willing to bet, though, if those threads are edited that the code will be FUBAR too.

BTW, nice knife.

Brian, thanks for responding, we didn't have this problem before the latest upgrade, I don't understand why the problem should be with PhotoPoint (but then there's a lot of stuff I don't understand) How does the code get rewritten?
I just set up this PhotoPoint account to post pictures here a little over a week ago and it was working fine, now I'm back to square one.

Spark, PLEASE! Do, do that VooDoo that you do so well!

PhilL,

I just tried a test post over on the GH forum and am getting the same results as you. The good news is that the software will still recognize a link to photos on PhotoPoint. Use URL and /URL in place of IMG and /IMG on the UBB code. It takes an extra click of the mouse, but folks will still be able to check out your pics.

Thanks Al, looks like that's the answer. You know I just learned to do this photo posting, so I thought I was doing something wrong, and I couldn't figure out what.

I wrote PhotoPoint HELP, this is what they said,

Hi Phil,

The URL's that you are using loks fine to me. I am not sure why you code
is being re-written. This however is beyond the scope of the technical
support that we provide. You may wish to ask the webmaster of the
BladeForums.com.

Please let me know how you make out.

Oh Webmaster!

Brian, it's good to know that better minds than mine are working on this problem, because at first I thought it was just me screwing something up.

If anyone can fix this I know Spark can, the man's a Genius!

Phil,

I just tried posting a pic from another Photo Host site and it works just fine. This one seems to get along quite well with the UBB code. Check out www.zing.com

Al, I checked it out Zing looks like a very cool place, seems like it has a lot more features than PhotoPoint. Now, all I've got to do is move all my stuff over there, ugh!

May I ask if you're keeping your PhotoPoint Albums as well as your Zing Albums?

Phil,

I'll probably leave what I have at PhotoPoint and start any new albums at Zing. That way I don't have to re-do all of the captions. I have around 120 pics on 9 albums at PhotoPoint now and it would chew up a big chunk of time to start from scratch.

Besides, I hate moving. All the cardboard boxes and the tape. Then you gotta paint the walls and put down the carpet and.........

Blackdog

I know what you mean Al, I moved three photos and I asked myself, "What the Heck are you doing?" I don't have nearly as many pictures as you do, but it did take some time to set up PhotoPoint. What I'll do is I'll save Zing, for photos I just have to post here at BF, without that annoying extra click.

I'll tell you those extra clicks add up, I bet I'm burning about a calorie a week, but that's good because the only other exercise I get is pushing my luck.

The UBB people are looking at this already, and working on a solution. There was a pretty big security hole that they fixed and that's what's causing this new bug right now....

Spark, you are the best, I knew if the there was a problem you'd find a solution.

FWIW I tried posting pics of a new William Henry folder today and found out what you guys already know. Apparently there is a slight prob with URLs in the posts. when I went back to transform the "img src" commands to clickable URL links, the UBB software modifies the other URLs in the message (assuming you have more than one, like my post does). for a while there I kept going in circles trying to correct the butchered URLs until I figured out I need to correct all of them all in one go, instead of doing one and submitting it to see if it works and moving on to the next. Really aggravating

Hope Spark can get the bug fixed soon.
