I decided I'm going to build a new 2X72 grinder this week. As long as I'm doing it I'm going to take some fireproofing steps. I've been concerned about this for a long time. This is a small shop, 16X24. I do a lot of woodworking, reloading, gunsmithing, Etc. in it. The grinders have to go against a wall. There is just no other place. I figgured others have a simular setup.

How are you protecting the walls against the showers of sparks? I was thinking of getting sheet tin and coating that wall and part of the floor. Any other ideas?

On my hogging off grinder I have metal mounted on the bench and up the back wall from the grinder,on my variable speed grinder I didn't do this as the sparks arent that bad coming off it.When I get the exaust system that I got for Christmas set up I shouldn't have any spark problems anymore (Hope).

My "spark guard" is my 5 gal. bucket set under the wheel. I add a little soap so that the grinding residue sinks and a little baking soda to keep the steel from rusting quite so fast.
When changing I dump the water on my wife's red roses. The iron seems to really help them grow.
Using everything, Lynn
