Spark issue by using metal to pry/chop/cut through metallic doors during accidents

Lads,

I was watching a movie when a scene of major pile-ups happened. One of the vehicles were the gas-filled truck and the on-scene bystanders had to pry the doors open with their hands as metal tools can create sparks.
I would like to any first responders about thisconcern without the conveniences of Jaw of Life.

How realistic to use an axe in this matter?

Grinding tools are usually dissuaded from use as they generate a large number of sparks. However, the average halligan and the like usually do not.

Usually fire-fighting teams are simultaneously dealing with leaking fuel as well as extrication. However, they will not enter a scene thats been deemed unsafe (to their standards). Rescue teams work all the time with Hurst equipment and products when working with hazardous materials. So while in the 1960's they may have thought that, the NFPA may have changed their thoughts on the approach.

The movie was made up drama. Gasoline is not nitroglycerine, outside in open air as a car door would be, cannot have sufficient fumes for ignition. It would require a very low spot, time, and no wind. You can have a fuel tanker truck punctured and leaking, the leaking fuel can be on fire and the fuel inside the tank will not combust unless the fire gets hot enough to boil the liquid fuel. Even when this does happen it takes a long time to boil a tank of gasoline. If the fuel begins to boil, you will hear it and need to run like hell, because thats going to be bad! pour a little gas on your driveway, put the can away then see how easy it is to light the wet spot with a spark or cigarette. Keep your face back, because it will light, just not as easy as you think.

Plot wise i like Swedish version more.
