Hey all - Just when I think I am done with all my fire starting needs I ran across some youtube videos demenstrating the Spark-lite firestarter. I carry a RAT fire kit and think this little spark kit may be a nice backup addition. I really like the size & fact that it can be done with one hand. I'm thinking that the striker could be stored in the handle of the RAT fire kit? Does anyone own or have experiance with this fire starter? I would love some feedback on this item!

no need in keeping both firekits together....
I have a sparklite and to me they are OK , work good with fuzzy tinder but beyond that I have had a tough time getting wood shavings to light with it....
I would opt for matches or Bic primary & Rat fire kit as a back up

I have one i my PSK, but like TTD said you're gonna need to keep some of that dedicated tinder with it or PJCB for it to be a reliable source of fire. And if you already have the fire kit and carry it regularly then no need to have one. But if you have multiple kits stored in other places, not a bad idea to have one and the tinder pieces in each. I have mini bics lying around everywhere, and always on me.

They throw a really good spark and as the Gents pointed out, you need the tinder from the same source or Vaseline soaked cotton balls...regular cotton balls will light right up as well, just the PJ soaked are better.

Where the Spark-Lite really comes in handy is if you are injured...your hand or armed severely injured.

The PJ soaked will work after getting wet. Just squeeze out as much water as you can and then fluff them back up. I don't think regular cotton will do that.
