Good evening guys (and gals?!),

I'm currently drooling on a Spartan Blade Ares.

I would like to hear some feedback about it before purchase, as it is not a budget knife.
Was wondering if S35VN makes sense on a bigger blade and how good it can hold an edge compared to D2, and if it is not as challenging to sharpen as D2.
How durable is the coating and how grippy is the grip, especially with thick gloves? (believe me you don't want to doodle with a folder or a skuppery knive when you need to cut some stuff with a -40°C windchill. Actually you don't want to remove your gloves at all. Oh Canada eh:) )

Intended use: farm work/camping/hiking/looking badass at the firepit party

Thanks for your input!

Can't speak for s35 on a large fixed blade but on the folders I have with it, I find it very easy to sharpen, but I find my d2 blades to be the easiest of all my knives to sharpen so...

I think the Ares is a fantastic knife. i owned one for a while, but it definitely felt like more of a fighter profile to me, and I did not have much use for it. I will probably get another one some day, but if you are looking for a camping/working etc. type knife I'd look into the difensa. That looks like the perfect blade that I do not need.

Ares handles were slim, the whole profile is slim and small. Again, seems like a great "fighter" profile, but I would not choose it for anything having to do with cutting wood or camp chores.
Best of luck.

Ok, I see what you mean. I really love the silhouette of the knife tho.
I'll get it when I'll be able to finance (another) collector. Now, I want a practical blade.

Guess my Dustar Dimona and Fallkniven A1 are not retiring yet!
