Spartan blades quality

I've owned an Astor, and quality was on point for the price. Definitely equal to CIVIVI, and better than Kizer's budget line; Kizer's main line, the Ti/S35VN stuff, beat it on price for materials.

Nice knife, though.

Ok, thank you. You liked the feel?

Yep. I only sold it because it had too much competition in my collection. Les George knows his ergos, and the Astor felt great in-hand.
cool, thanks!!

I suspect the Astor and Talos are made by the same OEM that makes Spyderco's knives in Taiwan. They have a very similar feel, and the Astor comes in that same Carbon Fiber/G10 material. Definitely very high quality knives.

Thank you! I had no idea who made them or how they rate. I’m looking at a Talos in CTS-XHP and G10.

I don't know for sure who makes them, it's only a suspicion on my part. The Talos is a great little knife, thin and super lightweight. It has a great action, I don't know of any other knives using bushings at that price point. My fingers are just a little too fat for the finger grooves when I hold it in the saber grip, I prefer to hold it in a pinch grip for most tasks anyways. You'll be getting a great knife, and Spartan has some of the best customer service in the knife business!

That’s good to hear! Thank you!

Recently picked up a full size harsey. Great fit and finish. Pretty impressive engraving and color on dlt warthog exclusive. Harsey is made in USA 🇺🇸. Feels like a cross between hinderer and a Chris Reeves knife. Nice and smooth. Detent is a little strong out of the box but smoothing out some or I’m just getting used to it. Great knife

I think the Talos is Taiwan. Glad to hear you’re happy with yours. Looking forward to getting one.

I noticed a detent just after breaking the blade loose from the lock, then blade closes fully. Is that detent typical of one hand openers? I’m a newbie to these, collecting and using traditionals till now.

Yes, after you unlock the knife the liner is pressing against the blade, and that detent you're talking about is the detent ball hitting the lockface as the blade closes. This is very common on linerlock and framelock knives. Sometimes it's less noticible because of the way the detent and lock geometry are set up, and sometimes makers file out a little channel or "detent ramp" to help it smoothly move over the blade.

Cool, thanks! Actually I like it, acts as a minimal deterrent of the blade, making it safer for a fumble fingers like I can sometimes be.

Well, I got a Spartan Talos and want to say thank you to all those who participated in helping me decide. I’m very happy with it so far and all the good points that were pointed out.

I’m liking this smaller guy, at least so far. Not so big on G-10, but otherwise I like it, blade shape is nice and it cuts well. It is a little light for heavy cutting, but I have bigger lockbacks for that.

Wish they would make a full sized harsey folder in XHP & G10

I hope so too. The Talos is just a little smaller than the SHF 3.25, and I hope they do the same with a full size Bronze grade Harsey folder. It would fit really well in their lineup if they make it just slightly smaller than the full size SHF, maybe a 3.75" blade, and keep it relatively thin.

Yes exactly. Basically just a larger Talos. I have one & it’s great just a little too small for my taste. Love the use of XHP tho, one of my favorite steels
