I picked this phrike up a few weeks back:

So far, I like it. A lot. The chamfering around the handle is just what a thin knife like this needs to be comfortable in use with thin scales.

I have used it to cut cardboard, fruit and other foods, plastics, amongst other things. I sharpened it on my dmt double sided stones and it took a screaming sharp edge with ease, a sign of good heat treat.

I have to say, I'm very happy with this knife. The smaller fixed blades are very hit or miss for me and this one is a hit. I don't feel under knifed when without my larger fixed blades I normally carry.

solid one piece of s35vn steel there, Sir? looks like a great smaller fixed blade. hows the sheath for it?

It has a g10 on both sides of the handle, which combined with excellent chamfering make for a surprisingly comfortable grip. And yep, it's s35vn.Screenshot_20180924-082033_Gallery.jpg

Sheath wise it comes with either a nylon or kydex, both are available from spartan blades. This one is a custom kydex and it is superb for pocket carry.

So thin it utterly disappears.

Ive read the Enyo by Spartan is a bit too thick especially behind the edge and not a good cutter. Do you find a lot of "drag" when cutting cardboard and such with this model?

Spartan blades seem a bit high priced but they definitely put some effort into making nice knives with good fit and finish . I keep going back to the Enyo and almost buying one.

those Ulti clips are great aren't they? they now have a "mini" model I just picked up. even better for pocket carry much smaller and less obtrusive.

It is a bit thick behind the edge but not so much it impairs 95% of cutting. In order to take rough use it sacrifices paper thin tomato slices, that said it is ultra sharp and capable of cutting tomatoes just fine.

Just a few days ago I was telling someone how my Spartan Enyo was quite thick behind the edge and consequentially not a great slicer.

I meant to post this up yesterday but got busy.

I own a Phrike as well. It is a fantastic slim EDC knife from a great company. And, after sharpening several of Spartan's knives in S35vn I can say that the heat treat is spot on. Like I've said many times here on BFC, I carry a fixed blade as a left hand backup to my pistol, LBH. The knife needs to not only be an EDC but it needs to flex into an emergency SD role. During the hot and humid summer months here in Eastern PA, when the clothing becomes lighter, a slim and lite fixed blade is needed. The Phrike has performed this role for several summers and will for many, many more.

I won a GAW from Petunia D. Feeble Petunia D. Feeble and he put this 15 DPS edge on.

Either sheath it comes with is great for what it is supposed to be. I'm a kydex guy so I use that but the nylon sheaths spartan provides are the best nylon I've seen, unlike some companies (Becker, I'm looking at you here). I carry it with the excellent G-clip from spyderco which I do with most of my EDC fixed blades.

Here are some comparison shots with an Esee 3, which in its self is a small slim knife. The Phrike beats it in blade length and slimness, not to mention a better stainless steel.

Some folks complain about the prices of a spartan knife. They are a premium product. If you want that you will have to pay for it. That said, all but one of the spartans I have bought have been off the exchange, some for almost 50% off list. If you want one, wait and watch.

As to the thickness of the edge, we must remember what these knives are meant for. It isn't slicing. It's a hard use military/utility knife. On specific models the blade grind makes the edge quite thick. It's not hard to bring it down to make it a better EDC.

I don't have any use for a small fixed blade, but if I did that one would certainly be a contender. I really liked the size and shape. Very comfortable, especially considering how slim it is and the proud tang. Spartan makes good stuff.

Ballast Point! Excellent choice...oh and nice knife selections as well. :)

I just used my phrike to open a can of corned beef hash, it was dulled but no dings or visible damage.

Quick touch up and it easily shaves, actually pops hairs.

Damn.

I've opened cans with the difensa. Same result. I'll also add that the coating held up fine. I'm not really a coating guy but if a knife has to have one, spartan is what is what I'd want. Stuff comes off on the coating rather than the coating being damaged.

Looks like DLC, which is my favorite for the same reason you like it.
