I have 6 ESEEs already but I stumbled across spartin blades don't know anything about them and I'm far from a metal expert so I don't know how it matches up with 1095. So I was wondering about getting ESEE 5 with molle pack or spending the extra coin and getting a spartin. Anyone had experience with them ?

I loved all my ESEEs so I know another one could never be bad ;) plus I hear the 5 is just Beast

Never used their knives but I have talked alot with the owners. Good guys and really nicely made stuff.

They make some great looking stuff. I've had one that I've been wanting for a while but just have never pulled the trigger on.

Way overpriced, and furturistic/fantasy looking. meh

ETA, Esee really ruins you for any other fixed blade. lol

Over time I have purchased four knives from Spartan Blades - Spartan Harsey, Ares, Enyo, and Phobos. I like their designs, ergonomics, and quality. In my experience, the owners are good people and a pleasure to do business with. They use S30V for their blades which in my opinion is a good all around high quality stainless powder steel. Depending on your sharpening skills, S30V may be a bit tougher to sharpen than the ESEE 1095. But it is tough and won't rust. Many of the Chris Reeve knives have been made with it for quite some time. Though I use most all of my knives, I'll be the first to admit I am a light weight user. I just love knowing about and playing with all sorts of knives. So I'm not really qualified to compare their performance for hard field use - maybe my ramblings are a waste of your time. If you look at their blade designs, the Spartan templates are quite different from the ESEE templates. So I think a good part of your decision would be based on how you plan to use your knives. I like the Enyo and Phobos knives for mostly pocket carry and sometimes neck carry. The Spartan/Harsey is a big solid knife which I'm sure can handle hard field use. The Horkos (spelling?) is similar to the Spartan/Harsey but a bit less in cost because it is not a collaboration knife. You will pay a bit for the Spartan blades but then again, you will for many other similar knives. I have some ESEE knives also and am also looking at the 5 and/or 6. It's hard to go wrong with a knife from ESEE but I think you would be happy with a knife from Spartan Blades if you purchase one with a template you like. Mike

I have both the Horkos and the ESEE 5. I don't think you can compare the two.
The Horkos is a cross over vehicle type knife; the ESEE is a freight liner truck type knife. If there is going to be any hard knife use going on I go with the 5; it has handled it no problem. If I am concerned about weight and know that any hard use will be an emergency; I don't hesitate taking the Horkos. The Horkos is also more of a fighter type knife.

I don't know anything about the steel.

If you have any more specific questions let me know.

Ah, I new it. It's not about the steel, or the designs, or even the quality of service, it's about your stunning beauty and people paying in hopes of having some connection to you. (Smiley icon here when I figure out how to do it.)

They are certainly not over priced or futuristic. The owners are both special forces that know how a knife carried into battle or the wilderness should be designed. Their knives provide just enough weight and have adequate length to get the job done. By the way. It's Spartan Blades and I highly recommend them.
