Spderco Merlin ATS-55 or VG10

I am looking to purchase a Merlin on line and find that some web sites list it as being ATS-55 and others as VG10. The Spyderco web site shows it as ATS-55. Can anyone help out? Is one maybe a newer model or what? Thanks to all who respond.

ATS-55 is old one, discontinued, and VG-10 is new one.

One should always choose VG10 over any ATS, whether it's 34 or 55. To do otherwise, would be unsound.

I understand that the Merlins WILL be done in VG-10, but don't know if they already are shipping that way. The last Merlin I got (maybe 6 months ago) was ATS-55. Once current supplies have been depleted, the new blades will find their way out of the factory (not the official word, just my guess).

The 2003 Spyderco catalog does list them to be VG-10.
