Handle material?????
I thought about Micarta... how about some suggestions.
It is getting Nickle silver pins.
I still have time before Heat treat to add stuff.

Saw teeth,IMO,are the worst thing one could put on a knife.Just sharpen the top edge.

0.25" ATS? Hooley dooley, you must be cranky! :D
I'd vote to sharpen it, would suit the shape much betterer

well for a real brute like that i'd us heavy canvas micarta like on my Bushwhacker thats on the crafts show page of my site. i love ironwood but that 1/2 brown canvas micarta will go to hell and back and just smile
:D

First, don't everyone laugh,I am not a knife maker yet,so I don't know Squat. And that is probably the wrong type of blade for this suggestion,but...How about Ivory and a Scrimshaw of an American Flag and an Eagle?Like I said,it may not be good for that style of fighting knife, but thought it would be appropriate for some knife!
Other than that, the brown canvas micarta sounds good or carbon fiber. :)

It does have that Anti-terrorist look. I too think an American Flag and patriotic theme. The real ivory wouldnt hold up though, President Bush says "This will be a lenghthy War"

I think some saw teeth on the bottom fourth of the back edge would look VERY wicked, and would make the knife more useful overall, best of all worlds... I would make them straight up and down on the side toward the grip and 45 degrees toward the point, like this

grip===l\l\l\l\l\======point

I don't know squat either, but since you asked:)... I think saw teeth would add a lot of "character". Either square shaped or rounded (scalloped?) serrations to offset the finger groove, maybe about 1/3 of the blade length. While Micarta is the toughness winner, I am very partial to natural materials. The ironwood you mentioned would be perfect IMHO. That is a fine blade no matter how you choose to finsh it.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I think it will wind up with Ironwood and no teeth.
I want the lines to stay a little smoother.
It will get a Fully sharpened false edge to help keep it interesting!

Robert,

Good looking knife no doubt about it. I can see that you are inspired! Ironwood is one of my favorites and with the nickel silver pins it will have class. How about making another but use natural paper micarta and have Old Glory scrimmed on it with 9-11-01. Betcha it would be a keeper. I want to see the finished knife! Oh, If you sharpened a false edge would it still be false? lol

Eric :D :D :D
