Almost 4 years ago a daughter and infant granddaughter move back home, so I bit the bullet and added a second story to our small house. After finishing three bedrooms and a bath, I set aside a little space for the library I'd always wanted. Then I got involved in knife making and never seemed to have the time or money to finish the project. About a month ago I packed up the grinders and reconverted my small shop back to woodworking. Although cabinate making seems a little harder than it used to be (like a lot of things), The most difficult part has been rounding up all the books and I'm still having some difficult choices about what goes back into storage. There is a small boockcase on the right dedicated to knife making books and civil war histories and another on the left full of cookbooks and sailing materials. I got my shop back in shape in time to fill a few Christmas orders.

Sorry for the abysmal pics.

Very Nice! I'd love to have an area like that for my books and stuff. You have quite the collection. Do you read a particular type of book or are your tastes all over the place?

Really nice. My wife doesn't know this, but my home office has floor-to-ceiling bookcases in it's future and I sure hope they turn out as nice as yours.

Wow! Looks like an awesome place to hang out, sip a nice coffee (or whiskey), and plan for the next knife to make

Mods - Sorry, I meant to start this thread in "around the Grinder"

Thanks guys. I built a base and soffett and then set in four 6' x 44" bookcases. That allowed me to indulge the other feature I've always wanted... The fiction runs the gaumet, but leans towards the historical, and there's usualy a bottle of single malt or brandy around somewhere.

ahhh, a love for books.... Instilled in my daughter at a very young age, now almost 10 she's read (and has collected) over 165 books all with what seems to be 100% comprehension.. I can pick up a book at random and ask what this is about, as she begins to tell the story..

good on you for going out for the family, even better on you to stash away a piece for yourself :)

now I know why you've gotten no wiser all these years later, because you've had nowhere to read :D

Books can be a great resource, but one must realize, they are only as good as the authors.

Nice work!
I'd like a book case like that.
And that closed top looks like the perfect place to have a secret hiding place :)
