Harry Humphries was on the "AMC" Channel (American Movie Classics) tonight. He was the Technical Advisor for "Pearl Harbor".

I went and saw the movie this afternoon (what a fitting way to spend Memorial Day) and it's not bad. It's not "Saving Private Ryan", but the attach is worth going and seeing it on a big screen for. Amazing special effects.

I can't wait for "Blackhawk Down"

"Black Hawk Down" was a chilling account of what happened in Mogadishu.

I hope the movie does it justice. Do you know when it's expected to be out?

I will go see this one for the Bruckheimer/Bey visual payoff extravaganza. Have not brought myself to see PH yet though. I can't stand to watch Ben Afleck. A real flat actor. He's almost as bad as Keannu Reeves.

These things change often, but the only reference I could find says March 1, 2002 (moved back four months from the original release date).

Supposedly they just started shooting in Morroco March 3.

Last I heard was that sometime in 2002. The cast spent about 2 weeks training down here at Bragg and at Benning with Spc Ops members to get some realism in the movie.

Don,
Hollywood is completely taken with liberalism. One of my coworkers knew both Ben and Matt. They all grew up in a neighborhood right around the arch liberal epicenter of Cambridge MA. Aside from Berkley, Cambridge is the last bastion of the socialist romantic; the Liberal Intelligencia who wield Critical Theory with a vengeance and pine away for the days when socialism hadn't yet completely bankrupted itself as a viable political/social endeavor.

I guess I sound a bit acerbic. Oh well, sorry for the rant. Anyway, its hard to come out of their without being at the very least a democrat.

C'mon, Ark! I used to work right there in Harvard Square. We ain't ALL liberal psychos.

Ben and Matt went to Cambridge Ringe & Latin, I think - I missed 'em by about a year.

You know you liked him in Good Will Hunting.

I heard PH was Titanic, pt. 2: 45 minutes of attack, 2 hours of love story. Figures. I'm pissed I missed Harry, though.

As for Black Hawk down, my uncle (well, step uncle - he married my aunt) was a PJ... He says they make SEALs look like sissies.... don't know if I'd go THAT far (I'm partial to the Squids, ya know). The Air Farce doesn't really strike me as the end all. beat all for SpecOps....

See2,
Yeah not everyone is a liberal. Two guys that I work with from that area aren't so I take that back. I have know several guys that went to Boston Latin.

The Air Force has had a relatively unknown Spec Ops element since Vietnam. The PJ's are incredibly well trained Spec Ops personnel. They train for about two years before becoming PJ's. Aside from an insanely high level of physical fitness those guys are highly trained Paramedics and shooters. Most if not all are HALO qualified as well as proficient mountain climbers and skiers. They also spend alot of time in, on and under the water. Its a gruelling course of training with a very high attrition rate. Check them out at http://www.specialtactics.com/scuba.shtml

They have not traditionally been as high profile as other units. I have known several from the Space Coast Area of Florida as well as Key West. Key West is home to The Special Forces Underwater Operations Combat Diver Course.

This is a bitch of a school. The school is staffed by SF guys who are PT GODS. There are usually two SEALs attached to the school's cadre. Aside from PJ's and CCT the school has trained Marine Recon personnel (who now have their own school in Pennsacola FL) as well as select members from foreign SF units.

The course has actually gotten a little less harsh over the years with the elimination of pool training known as "cross overs", thought to be responsible for a fatality and at least one near death incident.

One of the Training Cadre, A SF Medic, taught me the EMT course and used to take me and several other SCUBA Instructors over there from time to time.

I went to Airborne school with several PJs in my class. I think they were better fit than the SEALS in our same class. They had to get thier wings and have 5 static line jumps before they attended HALO school. All had just gotten thru Scuba school the day before they arrived at Benning with one graduating despite 2 broken ribs.

EK content: My Commander should be here any day.

From the cast list of BH Down, it sounds like there won't be an inane love story popping into the middle of combat.

My gripe with Enemy at the Gate and PH was the Hollywoodfication in doping in a love triangle for marketing appeal.

Could you imagine some marketing type saying " what if the Sammies were played by thin supermodels in see-thru sarongs, that'll draw the demographic"

I hope the movie honors Task Force Ranger.
