does anyone know where i can get a GOOD pocket-watch style of compass? the old-fashioned kind with the flip-up lid, like a pocket watch? i don't want to buy an old used one (ebay has a bunch)...brunton makes one but it's around $150 and not worth that kind of money...but i don't want one of those cheap brass imports either...i don't think anyone even makes them anymore (other than brunton and the cheap ones) but thought i'd ask...

I Bought One Somewhere, It Was Mail Order, But Cant Rmemeber Where, I Will Try To Look It Up.

Go high tech - Suunto makes a watch with a GPS, it does other things too !

cool.....watches with GPS....

Still waiting for a nice Dick Tracy watch......:(

If you want a 'proper' pocket watch (ie prismatic) compass then they will be very expensive as theyre typically solid brass with tritrium markers, jewelled bearing and mineral glass, quite a work of art. Incredibly accurate too, much more so than a silva style (but a silva compass is certainly accurate enough for normal use)
