Would you want your name or initials set into mosaic tiles on damascus? Would this effect the value as well? In a way I would love to have I knife with my initials in the steel. However, I would not have it carved or engraved into the handle. I fail to figure out why there is a difference to me.

My initials are CS. I'd hate for people to think it was a Cold Steel :p.

The only knife I'd want my name or initials on (or in) would be something with a Celtic motif. More of an art knife/show piece. Even then it would have to look like it belonged there and nothing too over-the-top. Maybe a small family crest with the name below it.

Just my .02, I would not have any personal markings put on any of my customs, if and when I decide to sell, who in the world wants my name on his knife. The kids may not want the knives and sell them all, it would be hurting the resell with my name on it.

I just want to add that I did not mean to steal the thunder from the other thread about engraving initials into a knife. I am referring strictly to pattern welded damascus with the customers name/initials in the steel pattern.

It would greatly lower the demand in the secondary market. The number of people that would purchase a personalized knife (unless the name on it was James Bowie, or someone else that was famous) would be a small percentage of the number that would be interested in the same knife without the personalization.

No, I do not care for having my name or initials on any of my custom knives!

A little JB discretely hidden in a mosaic pattern would be OK and most wouldn't see it unless it was pointed out.

I've hidden some mosaic images in pattern welded steel that to this day haven't been noticed or seen. :D

Hey Don I hope your not running your vinyl records backwards on the turn table as well:D . We all know about those subliminal messages. As far as the initials go, only on my personal user , maybe , but not to sure about that even. Only my opinion Paul

I understand that also, my wife purchased an original work of art before it was finished and the artist discretely hide both our names, none of our children could even find them without our assistance. But as to naturally visible to everyone, the answer is still no. Discrete & Hidden OK.
