Last year I ordered a Kershaw Blizzard from a local dealer and the literature in the box stated that it featured the "Speed Safe" mechanism, however, the knife did not have the assisted opening feature. I called Kershaw and was told that although the Blizzard model was a Ken Onion design, it did not have the Speed Safe feature. They said that the literature would be corrected on future Blizzard models. My question is why did they choose to do that? The Blizzard is essentially the Whirlwind model but with a green handle.

My understanding is that they had some people wanting the knife without the speed safe. I would like to see a Boa without the speed safe. Just a preferance thing, but I prefer mine not to have it.

I am just a worthless liar....... I am just an Imbecile ...... I will only complicate you ..... Trust in me and fall as well .... I will find a center in you ... I will chew it up and leave .. I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down

If anybody wants a Blackout without the speed safe, I'll trade mine :-) The assisted opening just quit on mine, so now it behaves like a real smooth, regular liner lock.

Margelatu,
The torsion bar on a friends random task wore out and broke. He sent it back to kershaw and they replaced it. Perhaps you could do the same...unless you didn't like the speed safe.

No, there was never any noise. I really have no idea what might have happened. I sure did flick the knife open lots of times, but I don't think I've ever abused it. After a while it seemed like the torsion bar just went limp. I would push the blade out and it would stop half way through the trajectory. On the other hand, there isn't any grittiness at all; the knife behaves just like a smooth, regular liner lock. The lockup is wonderful, with zero blade play.

As I liked the assisted opening quite a bit, I'll send it to Kershaw to have it repaired.
