I was thinking of the KITH here last X-mas and the one on knifedogs, and thought about seeing if anyone would be interested in one, but with a catch, all knives must be mini's. I like mini's and am currently building one. I think this would be friendlier in this economy with the (relatively) lower cost of materials involved. Would anyone else be interested in something like this? Maybe not right away, but sometime in the near future.

Does anyone think this might be a good idea?

Cheers-

Daniel and Stacy, thanks for the interest! I would like to get some other makers interested, so if you know someone who has or does make mini's ask them to join in. I don't think that exhibition quality art pieces are necesary but if you feel compelled to make one, feel free! If you have never made a mini, give one a shot and join in!

Let's try to get this ball rolling.

I would be game for that, if you guys would have me. What kind of time frame are you talking about?

PS I have not done a mini before.

Zech

Zech, I am a novice builder as well, but I am in the process of building my first mini, and I would like this to encourage all makers new and seasoned, to try a mini or if they have made many share their experience. As far as a tme frame goes, it would not be a mad dash or anything, I can't work on anything two days in a row usually. I was thinking maybe 40-60 days, but if everyone got done before that we could just do the name draw an shipping early.

If any of the past KITH makers have any tips feel free to let me know.

I'm IN! Lets do this. I have been wanting to do a KITH for a long time, I keep missing them. I will be upgrading my membership next month, so I will be able to post photos of the progres if we are going to be doing that.

Zech

I think that I will be encouraging photos as this goes along. As stacy pointed out, kina helps solidify who's in and who's not.

Well at this point seems like we have 4 people who want in, and that's enough to start a KITH at this point. I will let this thread go for a little while longer to get peoples interest before I post the official start of the KITH. Stacy thanx for posting the rules you used, I will deffinetly use them only modified to ecourage all makers to try a mini, and sheath will be entirely optional.

So if you are interested go ahead and post here, but please email me at fast14riot@gmail.com. if you use the email on my profile that's fine to, but I just prefer to keep them all in one place. Include your forum handle and your real name with contact info. Sending your contact info early is encouraged even before the official start of the kith, so I can be better organized through all this.

A small note about mini's, I don't think all minis have to be of minute unusable scale, if you wish to make a 1/5 scale bowie that is 3.5 inches or a 1/4 khukri that is 6" I still consider it a mini. Just be sure to pay extra attention to every detail and dimension to make sure it is true to scale.

Thanx guys, I have received 4 emails so far with contact info and that makes 5 knives in the hat! I really hope this goes well and builds to a larger number of makers, the more the marrier!

Stacy, thank you for all the info in the email you sent, it should be a big help.

I believe if you start a KITH thread ...they will come.

You could call it - "Life's Short Let's have A Small KITH" :)

Stacy, I will be postin the official start of KITH thread in a few days when I can actually concentrate without being all hopped up on cold medicine and get all the details ironed out. I will let this thread keep going a few more days to try to stir up a little interest. ;-)

I think we should let the builders come up with a name for it and see which one everyone likes. I want to make this as fun as possible for everyone involved and maybe a few more will join the party!

I was only kidding about the name.

I would just call it "2011 Mini KITH" and post the thread.
No need to add another step in the process with a "Name the KITH" poll.

A I said in the email of info - Keep it Simple !
The more steps you add to any project...the longer it takes.

Stacy, I wasn't going to run a poll or anything just maybe solicit a few suggestions in jest from the makers to see what fun things we all can come up with. There have been some serious threads in this sub-forum lately so I was just hoping some puns and maybe illiteration would lighten the mood a bit.

Believe me, I understand I need to keep something like this as simple as possible. I plan on using your rules from last year only modified for this particular event. I race sailboats semi-profesionally and have been involved in race management before when someone has tried to utilize every suggestion from every participant only to end up dragging down the whole event and endup with more people complaining in the end than if that person had just said "no, go read the rules" from the start. The holiday 2010 KITH went so smooth that I see no point it changing that format if it worked.

Thanx for all the info and help Stacy
