I have had the recent pleasure of using one of Barry Jones's knives.

The folder is one of the best I have seen. No gimicks, no frills, just a solid, smooth product. I have replaced my benchmade with it and intend on using it as my primary folder. If you all get a chance, I'd advise you to check out Barry's products.

Here are a couple of links to some of his knives. The folder I'm talking about is pictured in this album. It is the gray handled drop point that is locted toward the bottom of the first link.

Other knives can be viewed at:

Nice fixed knives too! All sizes and categories: neck, survival, "king-size" bowie, fighter, dagger, hunter.
Cool stuff. Thanks for the info.
Greg, which sheath knife would you endorse?

For my medium sized fixed blade knife I use one that I had custom designed specifically for me. It can be viewed on Bill Siegle's web site. He is calling it "Green Utility". Through a long process of discussion this design was created as my medium sized work horse. I have been very pleased with it... so pleased that I had a second one made for a friend of mine.

Check out Bill's web site... he is a young knife maker who still has reasonable prices... oh yeah, he likes to make trades too.

The Green utility really hits the mark. Thats the kind of simple design that I can appreciate. Love to handle one, use one. I'll just have to get over to the States in 2001.

Happy new year.

Greg, Thanks for the comments. I love to here that my knives are seeing use. As to some basic info on my knives, I use 5160 steel differentially hardened,Kydex sheaths, and suitably strong handle materials(G10,Micarta,and epoxy soaked cord). You can check out my web site for more info or feel free to Email me. Also as Greg mentioned I like to trade a lot so let me know if I can put something together for you. Thanks again!

How long a wait? - I have 6 of these which can be ready to go in 3 to 4 weeks. After that the wait is going to be about 3 months.

How much? - I prefer not to mention prices unless it is in the For Sale area. If anyone wants to know just email me and I will be more than happy to help.

What method of payment? - I take check, money orders, and PayPal.

BTW Guys, Thanks for the kind remarks.

I've seen nothing but praise for the Jones' bros' stuff, but unfortunately haven't ever been able to handle or use any...

There's a wide variety of opinion of what's the best light-duty knife shape, among people who really know what they're doing. I'm not even remotely as experienced as guys like Jeff or Greg, but am pleased to note that my purpose-designed light camping knife has a lot in common with Jeff's latest (at least to my less-experienced eyes), and the one Greg cited above -- like drop point blades with flat grinds, palm swell handles, bird's beak handle ends, drop-blades instead of large formal guards, etc.

Greg, could you look at the knife I designed, at www.pe.net/~thrblade/ttkk.htm and tell me what you think of the design, at least theoretically? Pictured is the 4" model, it comes in any size.

Joe,

I like the looks of the knife (you have a lot of nice looking blades). I could definately see how it would meet my needs with camp chores and improvising. I'd like to give it a field test sometime

BTW... you said

"I'm not even remotely as experienced as guys like Jeff or Greg..."

I know what a knife does for me... I know if it can meet my needs under field conditions in all global climates of the world...

I don't, however, profess to be an expert on how to make a knife. I'll leave that up to you guys... the professional knifemakers.

You know, I'll have to see if Trace is caught up enough to send out an evaluation version. I had asked Jeff to take a look at it a long time ago, as well. According to Anthony Lombardo, Ethan Becker tried it and liked it.

One note, all I did was draw the picture and serve as beta tester and make suggestions to fine-tune the finished product, which is made by Trace Rinaldi.

I'm in the opposite boat, I think I'm good at analyzing my own requirements and designing a knife that meets them exactly. But, here I was designing a light camp knife, and I'm not a bona fide jungle-exploring grub-eating mountain man like some of you guys
