I decided to start a binder with stories about people who have used a knife to get thesemselves out of stick situations and keep it in my car so when someone asks why I carry a knife, I can cite examples.

Stories where knives have saved people lives or otherwise... send em to me, and I'll print them out. Thanks!

I didn't save anyone's life, but I did help a woman in a restaurant open a box she got in the mail. It was pretty sad, she was just pawing at the box unable to open it. I just walked up to her and asked if she needed some help with the box. :) She was delighted to get the box open.

p.s. For reference the knife was a Kershaw Black Chive

Theres a 2 page thread in this forum called "No knife" check it out.

I saved my neighbors dogs life when she got herself tangled in a clothes line. They were playing frisbee and she jumped and got caught up in it. This is the same lady who thinks I'm a horrible kid and shouldnt be near anything sharp. I walked up, cut the rope and walked away without saying a word. She hasnt hassled me since.

This last spring, I used my Spyderco Snap-It EMT to cut away enough line from my dory's rigging to jury-rig a small step. This was good, as it allowed me to get part of my body out of the 45 degree water in which the boat was capsized, which allowed me to survive half an hour or so until rescue arrived, without my core temperature dropping much below 97 degrees.

I was particularly glad to have the EMT handy, as I was wearing an inflatable PFD, and I really, really, really didn't want to puncture it...

(I have since redesigned the mast slightly so that the boat doesn't stay irretrievably capsized when it turtles...)

There have been some excellent stories, both life altering and small, about the positive uses of knives here on Bladeforums.

How about a special forum thread (kind of like the one currently at the top) featuring these stories. All "important" ones would be verified by news or police reports, or by other members, while the "little ones" would simply be our interesting experiences with blades in everyday happenings.

Perhaps have some quotes from James Mattis (and others) to go with it.

A "showplace" for the good knives can do.

How about it??

Last summer I used a BM 830 plainedge to cut down a prisoner who tried to hang herself. She used her jeans as a large twisted rope to tie off on the top bar in one of our holding cells. My partner didn't have a knife. He does now. :)

I saved a horses life when I was volenteering at a festival. Some idiot tied a horse to the rail with a knot that wouldn't pull loose if the horse spooked. Something startled the horse and about a half a dozen wannabe cowboys just stood around helplessly looking at each other because none of them had a knife. I whipped out my Spydero Police and sliced through the harness.
Another minute or two and the horse would have probably killed itself in the bars. Or at least broke its legs.
Needless to say, that was a situation that a little sissy knife would not have cut it (pun intended). Sharp, accurate, and stable blades are an excellent tool.
Their eyes got pretty big when I whipped it out since I was only 18 at the time. They didn't mind me saving their horse for them though... And no, I'm not a cow boy...

I think a forum for knife stories would be great. I know I really enjoy reading them, especially the positive outcome stories. Let's see what the mods think.

When I was working as a security officer for a summer camp for inner city kids, one of the kids tied a horse to the gate. With a slipknot around the horses neck! It got tight and the horse freaked. A little help from an old Buck 1110 and horse was happy, or at least alive.
