..starring laci szabo, bas rutten, and diana lee inosanto?
i rented it the other day just for the hell of it.
and it was, to quote an accurate imdb reviewer,
"so bad, it was awful."

one or two of the fight scenes weren't bad.
afterall, szabo, inosanto and rutten are real martial artists.
and it's good to see the filipino martial arts in any big time format.
laci szabo also got to show some of his knives:
he used a uuk somewhat heavily (even to pry!) and i saw a jaws too.

anyone have experience with szabo knives?
the prices aren't bad for customs,
though they seem very "purposefully" made..

Hey! You beat me to it...

I saw on the Blockbuster shelves and recognized the names but, the three copies were all gone! I wondered if Mr. Szabo would display any of his goodies. So, it has some FMA, in it great!

I'll probably pick it up and fast forward to the knife or fight scenes...

For Szabo's knives, he does the design and other makers do the actual making. Greco has done some, Fred Perrin has done some, Black Cloud knives, and some other makers (his website tells you who makes what). So, good makers. Most are very purpose built, so I think a UUK, for example, would be lost on many people who don't know how to use it and train with it.

whew, and i was afraid no one would give a ****..

quiet priest, yeah rent it, it's worth a look.
but don't expect very much...

chiro, you are right, szabo is the designer.
and it's also true that his knives are definitely not for pc edc.
they seem like excellent fighting knives,
now if only i needed one.

I was simply delighted when I came across what was suppose to be Lasi Szabo's FIRST feature film debut.

Here is a short review

For those who saw the movie on DVD would simply have to agree that the CGI sucks bigtime.
And yeah, there were some pretty lame special effects along with the usual kung fu type over the top dramatic "death leaps".
And to take a non-bias stand, I would have to let the script speak for itself when you watch the movie.
However the cast of actors was what that got me curious enough though.
And what a good cast of pure martial talent they were.
Along with Dan Inosanto's daughter, Mr Szabo I would say, has met more than his match on the big screen.
The impression I get on making it in the business is that - "you gotta start somewhere".
So its only fair not to expect too much from this particular movie and give him a break he so deserves.
Heck, he's one of us bladeguys isn't he?
Besides he does have star quality when it come to applying what he knows best, and its just too bad that the allocated budget didn't quite match the scope of this film.
Mr Szabo in widescreen is a sight to behold. Given the fact that currently there aren't too many blade guros taking the lead on the silver screen speaks of a rarity in itself (BTW, are there any?).
I hope he is given a major break into the movies and get to play roles more becoming of his nature.
Otherwise it would be a waste of pure martial talent and not to say the least having a most needed positive publicity for "good guys with knives" on the silver screen.
Oh, and finally - no movie would be even considered complete without having somesort of "official movie Knife", nice touch!

I'll be waiting for his next great dramatic leap into stardom.
Break a leg Mr Szabo

Krizzard, out
