I'm looking for a single blade knife with either a spear or drop point blade. No smaller than 3 3/8" and up to 4" closed for under $100.00 might be able to go as high as $125.00. What pattern and maker should I be looking for?

I'm partial to the GEC Model 73. It has a drop point blade and is 3 3/4" closed. Some have two blades. Some have one. Should run under $100.

Take a look at the Queen Q-6LACSB Teardrop jack, the Q-3ACSB Mountain Man (not exactly a spear), the CA10503 Case XX Standard Knife Company Barlow, the Case/ Bose zulu might be a bit larger, but a superb knife and the new Schatt & Morgan Heritage series Q-1213 and Q1214 are worth consideration. I am sure there are others that I didn't think of. - Ed J

You know just until a couple of days ago I would have told you spear point with a long pull. I just love everything about them. They are a little more robust and remind me of a submarine. Not sure why. Anyhow, I am allergic to bees. I found out after being stung so many times over the years and finally one day a wasp got my vein in my arm and put me out. The doc said if I get stung again I will die. Well, I have gotten stung again, but now I seem to have a terrible allergy. So, a ground hornet got in between my big toe and the one next to it and I did the normal oh crap. It didn't really go to bad but then I realized the stinger was still between my swollen together toes. Hmmmm, you know your not supposed to squeeze them. I was just gifted a drop point 73 that I just sharpened on my new translucent arkansas stone. That slim tip was just small enough I could get it in between, actually touch the blade perpendicular to the stinger, 'catch' on it and pull it right out. Long story short, GEC 73 has my vote, as do drop points, even though I prefer aspects of the spear. A drop point is a very all around blade IMO.

Give one of these some thought. It is a Rough Rider San Mai 3 3/8" closed. There is a 4" version too. I love this knife, both sell for $20.00 to $25.00 per knife. I carry this one a lot for daily cutting duties. Sharp out of the box. They are hard to find right now.

I have a lot of nice USA made knives, and this one holds its own. Very nice drop point. You can still have enought left over in your knife budget to buy something else too.

Here's another vote for a GEC #73 scout, and I'll even toss in a pic of mine:

Something else to consider: GEC also has a single-blade lockback with a spear point right now for ~$80-$90

That green bone is really unique! Thanks for making me want one of those too! :-p

I too love the Rough Rider San Mai. I picked up a few of them when they were easy to find but found that I gave most of them away to friends. Amazing quality for the price and they hold an edge pretty well.

Just picked up a Schatt & Morgan Heritage Jack in Ebony Wood with the spear blade. It fit the bill exactly. I'm also going to pick up a GEC #73 with spear blade as soon as I sell off some of my tactical folders. Once again thanks everyone for the input

Here's a couple I have --
