Here're a couple pics of a spear point bowie I made for my eldest son's 13th birthday. He's packing it right now and can't wait to chop a tree down with it..........only for the sake of science of course:D
Specs,
-Forged 5160, 1/4 inch thick, 1 1/2 inch wide, 9 3/4 inches long from tip to guard. Etched finish.
-Dyed elk antler handle.......it was all washed out and grey so I colored it and then polished it down a bit........hard to tell from the pics, but it has a bit of a bark fossil ivory look to it.
-Fluted nickle silver spacer......blued in the flutes. Peined NS pin.
-Textured mild steel cap, guard and nut.
-Tooled leather sheath.
As always comments and criticism welcome.

Thanks Storm Crow, I figgure age 13 is a milestone on the road to manhood.......so a man sized knife seemed appropriate.

I would be proud to carry that!

Great total package. Care to share what you used to dye the elk? I have 1/2 of a huge shed in my garage drying, and will eventually start using it as handle material.

Thanks for the kind words.
To dye it I just used Fiebings leather dye..... medium brown. Can buy it at Tandy Leather.

Great looking knife. The patina and the texturing go together well. Great job and tell your son, have fun chopping down that tree:D
