Im really interested in buying a Crkt m-16 but i dont really know whether to order a tanto style blade or a spearpoint style blade?:confused:
Another question i have is half serrated or no serations, both are availiable from where i buy them :)
it will be for edc
Thanks

Before you decide to buy, check out other brands. CKRT has a spotty reputation for quality and especially for the steel that they use.

CRKT is craptastic in my own experience. While I was camping, I used a M16 Tanto to carve into some wood. It held an edge for about as long as any junk knife you can get at a gas station for $0.99.:thumbdn:

How was it that bad, are you biased? Actually, I've had more than a single CRKT and I have subsequently sold them all after that. For the same wood carving exercise, the Spyderco Military in S30V lasted the whole trip and still could cut more afterward. The Spyderco Military is truly a stout knife, minus the tip!;)

To stick with the question, tantos are better for EDC in my opinion, because that lower point works like the point on a wharncliffe blade, which is awesome for opening stuff without straining your wrist, trying to get the point down.

Plain edge is best.

But better yet, buy something from a brand with a better reputation such as Kershaw, Spyderco, or Benchmade.

If you're looking for a super duper heavy duty hard core flashy kill em all let God sort em out kind of knife that will chop down trees, take out zombies, and make guys ignore supermodels to look at a knife, then CRKT ain't what you want. If you're looking for a good solid EDC knife that you may use for utility purposes or maybe self-defense, get the Tanto blade. I carried one for a couple years and it was very handy. I had the M16-04Z Tanto plain edge. It can take a good edge and keep it, as long as you're not using to chop down trees, etc. I also had a spear point model, it was ok, but I thought the Tanto was more useful overall.

I got a spear point, its a good knife. They upgraded the steel, I never had any of the problems everyone seems to claim, I took a chance and ended up getting a great knife! However I did buy it for $15.00... Its one of my main EDCs. Just make sure to loc-tite the pivot.

Don't listen to all the knife snobs who consistantly put down CRKT, they do the same with SOG and pretty much any other brands but Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw. CRKT makes a fine knife for your average knife user who doesn't demand the top shelf materials. I have owned many of there products over the years and have yet to be dissappointed considering the price point. The M-16 is a nice design, I know a guy who has quite literaly abused one for about three years now, he has the tanto version and carries it everyday as his only knife. He prys, scrapes, and uses it like a screwdriver as most non-knife people tend to do, and it is holding up splendidly. He brings it by every few months for me to sharpen it and he couldn't be happier with it.

If you plan on using it roughly and want a strong tip then the tanto is your best bet, if you like a thinner, sharper tip for more precise tasks then the spearpoint is your knife.

I myself have been looking to pick up the M-21 even though I own many Benchmades, Spydercos, Kershaws, ect.
I had the opportunity to pick up a M-16 spearpoint for $25 at a local knife shop the other day but passed it up and someone else bought it the same day. Still kicking myself for that one.

I bought a M16-13T when they first came out with them. It's a great knife that I've carried around the world and has yet to fail me. They have a good product for a good price.

Hmmmmm, i think ive decided on a spyderco tenacious now, the crkt steel doesnt seem too impressive, but there still lies the question, semi serrated or non serrated?

good choice! and i would definitely go with non-serrated, unless you're planning on cutting through a bunch of rope everyday the plain edge will do everything you ask.

The Tenacious is a good knife, not for me though, I had one for a while and gave it to a friend. The AUS-8 that they use in the M-16 (most of the series anyway, some are AUS-6) is good, it blunts and rolls before it chips and it is easy to get very sharp. I have a M-21 on the way, can't wait for it to get here. If you like harder blade steels, you will like the Tenacious, mine seemed plenty hard and rather slick on a stone.
